-- Do you base your judgement on a liveset by track selection or mixing technique?
Ok, this may seem like a dumb question, but i'm just curious... do you guys base your judgement on a liveset/compilation by its track selection or the mixing technique? I know that there are some out there that have terrible mixing, and some that have awesome track selection... so what do you guys consider more? track selection or mixing technique?
i would say a bit of both..
but if i were to choose.. i would probably say good songs would come first..
but then again.. good songs which shite mixing won't do.. so its hard to say which one is better =)
a bit of both:
Mixing is for judging the dj's skills
Track selection is the part for raving.
,so for judging a set I just combine the both.
For me as a fan its definately track selection, I mean if the DJ can do amazing mixes with tracks I don't like I won't care....
But of course in a perfect world I want both
Cheers,
Thor...
Most of all,the trackselection, but also a bit the technique,it's always very nice to have the both of them that are positive in a mix!
You need both...
For a good set you need both... you can have cracking tunes but no dj skillz at all and it'll sound shite, same as you can be god on the TT'z and have wack tracks and that'd be shite too. So its all both... get what i mean?
Peace
The mixing skill only makes a difference if the DJ is either really good or really bad
An awful DJ can fuck up amazing tracks, and an amazing DJ can make awful tracks sound good IMHO.
I would have to say that a good track selection is the difference between a class or shit nite. However if mixing is good and tunes are pumpin who really cares as your probably full and otherwise engaged anyway, unless you are sober and can hear every fuck up made by a shit dj.
You know what the thing is:
Anyone can make a good and kickin' trackselection.
One of the problems is that not all tracks are easy to mix into eachother. A priority for a dj to be really great is that he can mix in almost every song.
If someone doesn't agree, let me know, cuz I have no experience in dj-ing.
heh
example PVD or Tiesto playing Eminem and Dr.Dre
that would be sh*t. hehehe
