Playlist for a party help please

So looking at the description of the forums, for a while, this seemed like the right forum to post in. Please move the thread or let me know if i was wrong. SOrry in advance.

But yeah, i was planning on having an apartment party (soley dance party, no beer pong, flip cup..etc). I have a 1000 watt system with an 8 inch sub, fog machine, strobe lights, and beat sensitive lighting. Since my apartment is sorta small, i was going to make the party last about 5 hours, to thin out the amount of people there are at any given time.

* THe next paragraph is my entire question summed up*
This leads me to my biggest problem, trying to figure out a 5 hour playlist (all electronic) and wanted to know if anyone could give me some suggestions. Preferabbly nothing poppy: LAsgo, Dj sammy, Draude, Oakenfold, etc.
**Question ends, rest is the background info**

The only drug use is alcohol in large quanitities. So people are gonna be roudy and wanna move around, not chill out. I need good drunken music. I can't think of what should be on the list. I have soo much music and can't remember which ones stand out.

The big problem is that dance music in this area is stricly brittney spears type of stuff, or the rap / hip hop that is aired on MTV/BET. THe preconception comin in, people will show up for the sake of the party, but its that "techno" blows.

I tried happy hardcore stuff once...it worked beautifully, but i only have hardcore cds.... after about 30 minutes, people are not used to the idea of tracks being mixed together and everyoen started asking if the cd was just one giant song. People stopped feeling it, so i need definate stop and start to tracks.

Just again, if anyone can give me some ideas

thanx

Yo i know how it is man. There's literally no EDM scene where i live. I don't know how much help this'll be but ever think of trying out Psy-Trance? Infected Mushroom, Skazi, Astral Projection to name a new acts. Possibly if people wana just hear cool sounding stuff that they can move to maybe you could try some of that? Just a suggestion

See i like that type of music .... i just don't think its "party" music
but thanx for the input

And i've had parties and people knew what type of music i like and still showed up. Just...eh..the music was kept only at about voice level...so people only had to slightly yell to talk. And drinking games...shooting the shit.... Music is still a factor in that and i had some people stay from 8-4 (cops showed up).
I just figure now, the drinking games are gone and the volume is going to be turned up, so the music alone has to suffice for the fun.

Yeah it's all about playing the right tracks at the right time. Just try and find out what type of stuff everyone wants to hear....ask around, give some samples, ya know?

Posted by Doza on Feb-20-2006 20:05:

I see your point about Psy-trance not being party music Ninja. People, including myself, find it hard to dance to.

I still need help....these are some tracks i've thought up so far...
I decided i don't mind selling out a little....and having the tracks be a little girly
Mostly listing em cuz my thread fell off the board
I always forget which order, so i'm gonna list it
artist - track

Katana - pleasure island (vocal mix)
Katana - Tribal Shock
Body Shock - ghost in the church
Aquagen - Saturn 8
Aquagen - Summer is calling
Driftwood - freeloader
Tiesto - Traffic(walden mix)
Tiesto & van buuren - Eternity
Tiesto & van burren - Wonder
PVD - For an angel (not sure which mix)
PVD - Crush
Blank and Jones - The Nightfly
Royskopp - What else is there?
Circulation - Lilac
Pulse - Shifting clarity (Fata Morgana's Return to motherhood mix)
*stick in some of the pop stuff ...from whatever genre*
Cajmere - Perculator
Gasolina
Ludacris - southern hospitality

I guess though while listening through these, I guess stuff a little more housy is what i need. Atleast upbeat rather than intense.

Yeah, i like the sets and stuff, but the sound quality isn't the greatest and i plan to have the music loud enough that you pretty much have to text message someone standing next to you to talk to them.
I think the live sets at that volume would sound horrible and the bass wouldn't carry through.

Try some funky or electro house. Now that will be a sick party! But thats if you like electro . People usually get into house easier then trance, its more catchy, and plus, its dancable.

Could you give me any names of artists to look into. My luck with house has been, i do like it, but never know the artist name, then the stuff i get by randomally searching for artists has not been good

To RapidFire.....pretty much the day the penn state gymnastic team started using his tracks.....i couldn't listen to his music the same way. And in general ...i don't think his music is bad i just don't really like it.

Lol

go with some shit that they are familiar with. Except at underground parties in downtown not many people dig the trance thing to party to. Its the truth.

Your solution is simple. Get any trance/breaks/house song you can find that have names that will sound familiar to the blind public.

EX.

Coldplay - Talk (any mix)
Madonna - Frozen (dj line)
Gorillaz - Dirty Harry
Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc. (stanton warriors)
Deep Dish Ft. Stevie Nicks - Dreams (toca)

Just a few so u get my idea

whether you like it or not your gonna have to throw sum stuff you might think is cheezy in their to make everyone happy.

stuff like

Brooklyn Bounce - Sex Bass And Rock N Roll (Instrumental) seems to go well over here in mixed musical style groups because of the changes in beats and breakdowns and then suddenly electric guitar . Americans like that shit.

I expected that.... i like it ....but its true ....i'll scratch that from the list.
thanx d0gma55 also ...i think i have some of those tracks...somewhere....i'll check em out and see how much of my pride i'll give up. I expected from the beginning to include stuff like that, was just hoping if i said i dind't want it....i'd get more ideas of stuff along the lines i wanted.

Pretty much..besides searching this forum....my only way of finding stuff is to buy those 6 disk compilation sets for $5...and going from there.

Posted by dOgMa55 on Feb-23-2006 07:16:

hehehe nah i didnt make my point like i meant to. You need to get songs like that and scatter them in between the songs you like. Just dont go overboard and put in a ton of repetitive or too happy stuffz.

Keep your pride just mix it in with some stuff people can recognize and feel like they are part of.

also, i love pvd - for an angel but i dunno

Posted by dbzninja41 on Feb-23-2006 07:43:

Haha..yeah i know what you meant, i was attempting a joke with the response. THe whole thing is a gamble sorta to begin with, so i was gonna throw in rap and "girly" stuff...intermittantly to keep the female portion of the crowd around.

Posted by dbzninja41 on Feb-26-2006 07:27:

seriously...if you can just drop 1 track that you think would be good....i'd appreciate it.
