Sasha and John Digweed : Northern Exposure
Listened to this for the first time yesterday, well CD1 at least and I'm stunned at how good this sounds for a release that's now 10 years old. It's one of those CDs that I'd heard about loads of times but I never paid attention to it until now.
For a start the mixing is amazing, I mean where does track 1 actually end? It all blends together so well that it sounds more than just a mix, it's almost as if Sasha & Digweed produced the whole thing themselves. The first time I listened to it I was half asleep and it confused me hearing some tunes linger on in the mix long after I'd have expected them to mix out.
The ambience here is amazing, tracks like Satellite Serenade and Last Train to Lhasa just take over my mind and send it somewhere else. Truly evocative stuff.
I've go to give the second mix some time now, I've had CD1 on repeat since yesterday.
So yeah, this is pretty much essential, like I've been led to believe. It's totally made me reconsider how much EDM progressed in the 90's.
I agree - it's one of the best mixed CDs I've ever heard.
One question though, what do you mean you had CD1 on repeat? It's just one CD, not a double CD.

Original UK release was 2xCD as was the Australlian release... both on Ministry of Sound.
American release was JUST CD 1 which was released under Ultra.
god within - raincy to rabbit in the moon - out of body experience makes me jizz in my pants.

If you don't, you're missing out a ton of great music. |
