FX processors

I searched but didnt find a thread that covered different reviews and first hand expereances of different FX machines. (if there is one please add a link) Ive been looking at these but have no idea what types/companies have been putting out quality stuff like this. Im assuming I cant go wrong with the pioneer but Im sure Id be overlooking a couple options. Id just like to use this with my lil' DJM-300S seeing as its been working perfect for 6+ years. If I do get a new mixer it would be the new DJM-400 but Id rather not.

If you have one or use one often please throw in your two cents

I love my EFX500, it takes a bit of getting used to the fact that some of the effects on it need to be used in a bit more subtle manner than others (For example the Ring and Fuzz effects I usually use in a very minimal sense, without ever really opening the effect up wide), but after playing around with it for a couple months now I can easily say that I love it, and can't imagine really playing without one.

With that said, I do believe I'll also be purchasing a Kaoss Pad KP2 in the near future. I've only played with that one a couple of times, but I REALLY dig how you manipulate the effects with your fingers. You can make some c0razy noises with that thing...

All in all, effects have definitely added a whole new level of enjoyment to mixing for me... Good luck to you m8, hope you find something that suits you!

Thanks RJT....you have actually mentioned my top 2 picks, but I just wanted to get second opinions. I should probably go down to guitar center and try them both in person. I was just looking for a "top 5" so I can narrow it down to my personal preferance. I didnt want to over look one.

I've heard wonderful things about the Alesis effects units too, but have never once used them... I'm hoping that I can get a shot at them at the new GC they just built in my home town

I picked up an Alesis Philtre for $50.00

Its basically, a High Pass,Low Pass,Band Pass, &
Band Stop filter. Offers Frequency, Regen, Rate,
and, Depth controls. 24 Bit/48,000 Khz Sample Rate.
Modulation features; Triangle, Sample/Hold, Enevelope
Pattern, and, Tempo Sync.

Stereo too

But what do you think of it....sure $50 is a good price but if only good for a couple things Id rather spend more. How about some input on your expereance using it?

Posted by OMNIFEX on Feb-24-2006 00:50:

I'm very happy with it.

I'll post a clip so you can get an idea.

Listen For Yourself. Keep in mind I only had it for a week, and, haven't
really used it.

I agree........WOW, I'm seriously looking into one of these little things...

Posted by failsafe on Feb-26-2006 21:42:

how does it connect? is it via send/return or do you run your master into it and then onto your amp?

Posted by Danila on Feb-26-2006 22:49:

yeah what ^^ asked, I dont have send.receive on my mixer for my 2 channels

Posted by failsafe on Feb-26-2006 23:37:

I already have a djm 500 hooked up to my send/return so if it can't hook between the mixer and then amp it's no good to me.

=/

Do you mean EFX-500? You can add another unit to the same chain, or between your mixer and amp. If you do the latter, you'll just be adding more noise to the signal flow.

Yeah. I definitely got my $50.00 worth.

Imagine, when I really take the time to use it properly.

Okay. I picked up this on Ebay from a company called...

Nova Musik <---- Click

It uses 1/4 inch inputs/outputs, so, you'll need to use 1/4 inch
to RCA adaptors.

Although it offers a gain control, I found it sound better running
it through the Effects Send/Return. But! I only tried it using
CD Players. If I use my decks, it should work better, seeing decks
put out a lower signal than CD Players.

EDIT: My demo didn't offer the Modulation options. So, there's
more tricks you can do.

How much are you willing to spend?
I bought an EFX500 in December and am loving it. It was kind of a pain to get used to at first, but once you get the hang of it, there's so much you can do with it. I have a PCV-275 and it's harder to use with that mixer than with ie a DJM600.
Have you taken a look at the EFX1000 yet? It's more expensive, but it has more effects.
Oh, and that Alesis unit for $50, sounds pretty damn good

Posted by Danila on Feb-28-2006 23:17:

yeah that Alesis Philtre sounds great for $50

Posted by OMNIFEX on Feb-28-2006 23:28:

I think I better buy another one before Dude runs out.
Alesis doesn't make it anymore. Here's the Manual
for those who want to read more about it.

Why?

I would think the Xone would do the same thing?

EDIT: Thats $50.00 with free shipping

Posted by L.E.N. on Mar-01-2006 06:12:

This should work with a two channel mixer right?

I guess I should have asked that before I ordered it huh?

So do I just need to get 4 1/4" to RCA cables to get it going?

Posted by OMNIFEX on Mar-01-2006 12:28:

This should help.
