it is like having a kid... first...

get a smaller dog... they are easier to control...
smart dogs- there are lots

do you have time to train a dog, house training requires constant attention- like you can't leave for 8 hours of work!

i mean- it isnt' just fun and games...

Posted by Mr. Pink on Feb-24-2006 04:25:

Rasta

yeah i know its not fun and games..........

but i see tons of single males with dogs in the big city.

why not me?

so what does it take?

time and attention, i have it.

i just want to know a kind of breed that is inside and out.

something that I can play inside my crib with....be chill...maybe sleep a bit, healthy appetite,......., but rough up and bring out to parks with & play frisbee, wrestle with, etc......

I'm not looking for an animal.

I'm looking for a friend

javi. resist your paternal urges. do not get a damn dog. lol. if you want to sanely own a dog you need a yard and a house (and quite a bit of $$$ for vet bills, boarding, food, etc). also, if you have one dog, you'll eventually need another one to give it the companionship it deserves.

i have two dogs and although i wouldnt trade them for the world, they have tested my sanity and the first 2 months of owning each of them i asked myself "why the FUCK did i do this to myself?" over and over.

if you do decide to go through with this sort of self-flagellation, just remember, dogs are a shitload of work...especially mini bull terriers (although i must agree those are SOOOOO DAMN CUTE, OMFG!). i used to want one until i found out they are incredibly aggressive. i personally like smaller dogs cause everything is so much easier. screw that whole "i want a big dog to make myself look like a badass" thing. not only are smaller dogs cuter , but smaller dogs = smaller doodoo, smaller piddle puddles, less smell, more room in your apt or house, and they live a lot longer. they fit well on your lap and also tend to stay looking like puppies. also, steer clear of long haired/bushy dogs. their hair gets everywhere and you have to cut the doo out of their fur.

i know you said smaller type dog but i must say that i ended up with a stray rottweiller and a stray german shepard, within 2 months of each other, both pure breads and they have been the absolute best dogs i have ever had. especially my rottie! he is the most loving, loyal and well trained dog ever. he would go to the ends of the earth for you to please you. and talk about a snuggler, he literally spoons you! both of them were about a year old and already house broken (thank God) puppies can be like small children or babies and take a lot of work.

have you thought about going to the pound to save a dogs life? you can find the best dogs there. and even pure breads. over the years of growing up we have gotten several from the pound: doberman pincher, shitzu, afaghan hound, german shepards, losa opsas ( i know i'm butching the spelling on some of these).

anyways just my own experience
good luck

you sure you're responsible enough to own a dog and be a parent? I mean for real we all know the real reason why you want a dog. It's so you can use the dog to score with chicks. And then, even if you don't score with a chick..you always have that dog...late at night...

Bah!

I want a pet.

I had a pet my whole life before college. I liked the companionship.

the only thing holding me back is $$$$$$$

otherwise, im a go.

and i know the $$$$ won't always be a factor. So it's something im seriously considering.

Don't get an American Eskimo. I had one growing up and she barked at any person not familiar non stop. Granted she was subject of some of my teenage mischief, well the point is don't get an American Eskimo!

thats just one dog, dude. american eskimos are quite precious. i had an australian shepherd once, and she bit anyone who touched my family, and one time he bit a friend of mine who was over (she was 10 at the time) in the face, and the girl had to go to the hospital for stitches. so we had to give my shtinky away cause of that stupid bitch. so im not advising against autralian shepherds, but im just saying

Posted by ThomBizznitch on Feb-26-2006 15:47:

sativa is part american eskimo... and she is the sweetest doggy ever!!!

Posted by lightside on Feb-26-2006 19:23:
