Trance Challenge

I started off as a huge fan of trance, but over the past two years I gave up on it completely for lack of quality. Actually, trance (and hardcore) is just about the only EDM genre that I don't listen to anymore.

So here is what I think - I am willing to give trance a shot. Name the most original, groundbreaking and earthshattering trance sets of 2004-2006 and let me try them out. Prove to me that there is still quality trance out there.

a.

pay attention to MARCO VVVVVVVVV

SANDER VAN DOORN
RANDY KATANA
MARCEL WOODS

all fairly techy, but i know what ur saying, and these are the guys that are pulling it off. Maybe not so trancey, but they will fill ur void.

How about you give it a little effort yourself instead of whining, eh?

Here's a scenario:

I download three Menno de Jong sets and listen to them. I don't like them and I say as much. The collective replies: "Eh, everyone knows the best Menno de Jong sets of 2005 was the fourth set you didn't listen to". And so on ad nauseum.

I am trying to be specific so that there is no wiggle room afterwards.

The first 2 mins 50 sec were bearable. Then the breakdown hit.

Next?

because, clearly, a set is best judged by its first track. man, get a clue.

Quite frankly I don't understand what you're trying to achieve here.

You quite clearly don't like trance, yet you're willing to "give it a chance" (whatever that's supposed to mean). You ask for recommendations and dismiss them the very first chance you get.

Why bother, seriously? Just admit trance isn't your thing and be done with it.

I can tell you that you will be dissapointed since the majority of the trance sets nowadays lacks the atmosphere which was common a few years ago.
But there are a small number of DJs that still manages to capture that.

Here you go:

Nicholas Bennison - Jaunary 2006 Promo mix <- can be downloaded of his website at www.nicholasbennison.com

John 00 Fleming - In The Mix (ASOT 155XXL) 07-01-2004

John 00 Fleming - The Finest Hour (ID&T Radio) 05-22-2003 <- I know its 2003 but it's propably the best set I've heard in years. never gets old.

Son Kite - Live in Tokyo 2004 <- can be found as DVD as well. awesome deep and tribal trance.

i don't know if I would consider Ronski Speed - "next level"....now anyone feel free to tell me to fuck off, and prove me wrong. I mean, he is fine dj/producer...etc...etc...but ya..

Are you speaking to me, son?

If so, you best change your tune.
