If you are looking to dj then get direct drive Technic turntables. Shit, I dont even think Technic ever made belt drive tables.

Nah Panasonic are the new besterist ones.

Bet in your head you were going... no there not Technics are the best the internet says so... well there the same.

Now to being constructive.... basicly mate (orig poster) they don't have enough turning power to allow you hold the record and to keep the platter turning. Which means the record won't start up as quickly.

Also they will genrally not hold pitch that is they drift around alot which throws off yout beatmatching.

You don't NEED to get technics, though they are the industry standard. Belt drives are a bad investment. Your gonna have to pay alot for records and a belt drive will make it difficult to mix them properly. So whats the point?

If you more ment the technical aspects I'll go into that if you want, but basicly the belt which drives the platter can slip and means the drive won't resist much force. Also the belt heats up the pitch goes off and all sorts of nastyness.

And it is basicly an indication of a sub quality drive. (I'd be interested to know how many of the belt drive haters on here have actually played on one too lol)

With magnetic drives, the platter is driven by electro-magnets, whereas belt drives are held together with a rubber band.

Magnetic drives (like Technics) stop instantly when you want them to, hold a constant pitch wherever you set it to, have higher torque, and require much better engineering. Belt drives last a few months as the belt wears out quickly, the pitch wobbles like crazy, and they have an annoying tendency to stop completely with the lighest of platter brushes.

ME! I started on belts! I didn't realise how rubbish they were til i upgraded to techs - just a different DJing experience altogther.

They're shoved under my bed collecting dust if anyone would care to lighten me of them???

It's been said numerous times but i cant stress it enough dont get any deck with less then 1 kgcm torque THATS MINIMUM!

imo, belt drive is fine for ripping vinyl (just be sure to get nice needles)

but dont even try DJing w/ them...

Not even. If you rip your vinyl to use on cds and the pitch wobbles it is going to be a bitch to mix.
Belt drives are usless if you want to dj. Its possible but not worth it.

I dont know enough about those turntables but if you wanna dj and one day play out dont you wanna learn and get used to something you will be using everywhere else you go? Thanks. Do yourself a favor and get Technics.

But the panasonic tables arent necessarily made for djing are they?

Edit: Nevermind. Found out they are exactly the same. So what was the point of the initial person who quoted me to say what they did. Makes no sense...

thanks guys for the helpful info., so should i look more into Technics or Numark, i found pretty nice dj package from Numark with everything to start djing, and it looks pretty good enough for me to start practicing on it, and maybe few months after i can upgrade.

1 more thing. can you guys give me some website of Dj Shops, I wanna buy my things online, it'll be cheaper for me like that.

I just have a hate of ill informed advice.

Posted by Dervish on Feb-26-2006 02:47:

Just for information, I'm currently enuberated (sp) but he point of my little jibe was that people tend to go "technics technics technics" without even trying other decks.

You'd be willing to say technics were better than "panasonic" decks even though they are the same thing. Now what does that say? You choose. But it is one of my pet peaves this technics bandwagon (note you're in the magority).

Right I did quote you in my sig, but I recon your just trying to be helpful so I'll take it out but open your mind ok?

It depends on what you can afford. I personally value records more than equipment. So if it comes to the crunch more records wins.

But since it is a one off investment it makes things tough.

Posted by x_moe on Feb-26-2006 07:07:

im finding alot of good turntables on ebay with incredible deals, but some ppl tell me its a scam, ,is that true? do people get ripped off of ebay, i would like to know, coz i dont wanna take the risk

Posted by s3nate on Feb-26-2006 07:37:

If you buy from e-bay shops (basically people with over 1000 sells) it should be pretty reliable.

I think good belt-driven tables hold their pitch better than direct drive tables

Most audiophiles use belt drives.
