James Holden is a genius.

His new CD "At The Controls" comes out March 13th (my bday lol)

All I can say is, its a really...really good CD.

He's upped the bar. Holden is just on his own cloud doing shit like no one else.

I need to hear one of his more recent sets....

I saw him a couple years ago...actually opening for J00F at Spundae LA of all places, and I and most others seemed to have been rather disappointed.

But people say he's the SHIZNOT these days live...I wish I could see him. Must convince someone!

Maybe you should've seen him on a night when JOOF wasn't playing.

yeah really enjoyed both cds...not as good as balance 05 but close and really easy on the ears..loved the relaxing house/ambient sound to the cds...overall very smooth compilation

8/10

Its not a question of how good he is live...i mean musically, hes just on another level.

omfg, god yes. At The Controls is just utterly superb. I can't wait to get the non-promo copy so that I can listen to it without that guy saying "this is for promo use only yada yada" every five to ten minutes. The whole album sounds as though he meticulously went over it so that it flows perfectly, and it does. A mint, mint album

At the Controls is FUCKING HUUUGE! then again Holden albums never disappoint, they just get better and better... how is that even possible i ask myself every time...

I completely agree. I was listening to his set at Flex Vienna. HOLY FUCKING SHIT! THAT GUY IS MUSICALLY SPECTACULAR!!

I know his secret though

I loved, I mean loved his Balance release but honestly the bulk of his live sets I've heard are boring. And these have been somewhat recent sets too. They don't have nearly the flow of his productions.

Still I can't wait to see him live in support of his new release. And I will be at Tower Records the Tuesday it is released.

Now Pole Folders sets . . . ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sweet. Listening right now.

when's he coming back to LA? i saw him like 2 years ago and i missed his set @ avalon last time he was here. i need to get holdenized again

Completely different...but he does include the blackstrob - nazitrancefuckoff remix.

Its almost not dance music mostly, but its amazing music.

Yeah his mixing isnt the best...but damn that is a sick set!

CND, his recorded sets dont do him justice IMO, found him abit sleepy myself...but live...the deep dark floaty basslines kill you...the tracks are so minimal yet so intense.

+1 to seeing him live! when i saw him at avalon i just died, he moved right on up there on my list. i could literally feel the bass on my arms when he was up there. crazy

Posted by pumpkin_king on Feb-27-2006 20:45:

by far my fav...his transitions are seamless. personally, i love his live sets...vienna, haldiki, silverdome....all great (more recent) live sets.

Ghost Smilie

yes James Holden is a genius...and since we all like Holden (or some of us don't or haven't heard his sets to form an opinion) we should all post whatever links we may have as an offerring to the rest of the community...so I'll start here goes:

http://movies.mine.be/mine/movies2/jamesholden.wmv

7/20/2005. enjoy

not sure if holden is VJ also, but i do believe so...the site i got it from is in japanese but says "VJ" next to the name James Holden, soooo.....yes; Holden is a genius.

Havent heard the new cd thats in question. Im pretty sure its sick. Balance is not only sick in my opinion is strategically constructed. wow what a cd!!! But as far as live, i think thats when Holden really shines. In October (1st time i saw him) from what my eyes and ears told me Holden was dropping some mad heat and his mixing was precise. Lavelle's trainwreck only made Holden sicker, but regardless the kid is talented. Zabiela and Holden are the new era and theyre getting better and better everytime. That night for me, almost *** and i say almost*** was up there with Sasha and Desyn. PIG

I might have to check Holden out live then. Problem for me that when I go out to the club I'd prefer hearing melodic trance than dark progressive house or techno. Maybe I'll go stoned before his set then try him out.

Posted by buchnaner on Mar-05-2006 08:54:

last time i saw holden was at WMC last year.

i really think he's in the new generation of house DJs. his sets AND productions are so bizarre...dude should start his own city because he's in a class of his own. his dj style reminds me of that kid in school that was in the back of the classroom, always causing problems.

I wholeheartedly support Balance, must have new one
