Review

MoonBird
New Producer Alias, Same Great Experimental Sound...

Reviewing an old friend
The firt thing to attack you in this tune is it's crazy bass, to be hoesnt with you, I haven't heard a detuned bass this good ever. The arp really throws you off, but man does it sound amazing. My review may be biased because I've been a fan of Waves Powers for quite sometime. The one thing that his tracks have that never seizes to amaze me is the sense of momentum and atmosphere in his breaks and drum and bass songs. The snare play is absolutely a trademark of Moonbird's sound. Once the build comes in, one gets attacked with a sense of overwhelming euphoria. The climax really plays a part in that feel good emotion. But my complaint with the tune is at the 2:42 mark, the snare roll could definetly be sped up before breaking into the dance section. Nothng does the trick better than a reverse crash followed by a crash. Maybe some air synths? You know, the white noise kind? The melody reminds me of the theme song for a show I used to watch when I was little kid. Called "Reading Rainbow". Man that was a hell of a show. A real uplifting melody. Some plucks would be really nice in this song, like a "filler".

The Good

You really can't go wrong with Moonbird.
Original sound.
Nice gated synths at the end of the song
Trademarked atmosphere
Nice progressive style melody
great detuned bassline.
New Alias

The Needs work
At the 2:42, the entrance of the main melody is akward, it really has no intro, it just suddenly breaks into "thump thump thump"
It needs some beefing up in some spaces, it feels almost "empty"
plucks would do a neat job of fixing that. A supporting synth.

Overall
In the end a well produced track, nice melody (Although not memorable)
sounds nice and uplifting, great bassline is a treat, eq's sound just about right. Great job

i like the bassline, its quite unique - good percussion, theres certainly a lot of energy in this song! Not sure about the synth stabs that come in near the start but i really like the trancy melody & pads in the main part of the song...sounds differnet to a lot of other stuff..and thats good

I don't like the stabs.
The bass is ok.
I don't like the arp sound or the progression.
The break comes too early.
I don't like the snare roll.
The gated pads are nice.

I can't find something in this track that will make me like it.

3/10

Hey... cool beginning with the detuned sounds, freaky stuff, real psy trance!!!! The kick could have much more bottom end to give the track a real boost. Otherwise the mixing is pretty good. The track has some orginal rhythmic stuff going on...the bass line is cool.

Imo there could be a stronger main melody in the track, now it seems that there are only various arpeggios in the track. Original stuff, thats for sure...

Good job on the whole although I am with Lakeus on this one as there is no real defining element to the track. It's good but doesn't stand out for me.
It is however very good to delve into regions otherwise uncharted by yourself and you always learn stuff when you do.
In terms of technical ability though this is a great track.

Cheers

i love this!

really odd sounding! so fresh! i love your 80's synths. they are PHAT! definately make it with some really big techno loops and a much better kick!

awsome! just build a big perc arrangement around it and id definately see this being played by the big guns!
