ATB's going down hill

I use to big a fan of atb when i first got into trance..with combining of guitars and punchy basslines and vocals. But since Believe in Me came out i couldn't make myself like it. Then i heard the songs from his new album 'Seven Years' like Humanity i confirmed to myself that it wasn't going to get any better.

Don't worry, ATB's gone down hill after his second album. He's not trance but just euro dance trying to be trance ala DJ Sammy. That's probably his biggest competition. ATB's first album was really great because it was quality cheese, it was just really melodic and was one of those albums that you wont get sick of, no matter how corny it might be. But after that he tried going all serious and emotional and it turned out to be really fake. His DJing is pretty poor as well. His mixing is worst than Tiesto's, and he plays a mixture of "the best trance hits of the moment" with "cheesy, bang bang" shit. I really don't think he should be taken that seriously....as much as he takes himself. He seems to churn out so many albums it's silly...when a producer releases something every year and a half that makes me wonder what kind of quality his stuff is...to be releasing stuff that soon, unless he spends all of his time doing it. It's quality over quantity, and I think ATB goes for quantity.

i wouldn't say im bored.. i just am a person who wants to be a dj and really like trance in a town where no one's a dj or likes techno or any type of electronic genre and i just have a lot to say. And it's nice to talk to other people that like the same music.

i agree with you. i liked his first album and even the one with long way home..that song is probably my favorite by him.

Posted by Spartan on Feb-27-2006 22:44:

ATB is so far down the hill he's on the bottom of the other side.

Yeah but look back at his first album, Movin' Melodies, those melodies were quite "Movin" hehe. Cheesey as hell but still quite fun. No one can deny that, even the elitists of elists (okay maybe they will absolutely hate it, but whats wrong with listening to some "cheese" ever once in a while??). It's an album you can't take seriously, but it's like a little kid's show or a game you played on the playground as a kid, or a silly video game, you might absolutely hate it, but you can't deny it's not fun!

^ oh I completely agree.

I own Movin' Melodies, Two Worlds, and a few other older ATB albums.

I still enjoy them.

But like the others I feel like the direction he has gone in since then hasn't been true to his original style that made him famous in the first place.

Exactly, thats what I applied in my first thread, although not in exactly the same words.

by the way, so... everybody consider atb music cheese?

I like trance but yet I respect atb cus he's a good producer...
if he's cheese, he's cheese with quality...
his albums are a bit cheese but with songs that could be labeled trance, if you could check the "trance standards of production" nowadays...

what about his version of: you're not alone"?
it got more sense and better lyrics than oceanlab - satellite...

what the heck is a person singing satellite???

other atb tracks with vocals are better than ridgewalkers - find, for example... or that kva - made of sun...

nowadays trance with vocals are so funny...

I know most of you will disagree with me, but's ok...

I love his remix of Moby - Why does my heart feel so bad? Great song, very happy and summery sounding.

Wow! that jus took me back some years! That song was great.

Regardless of past accomplishments downhill is the correct term.

i don't think ATB has gone downhill. though his material isn't on (or will be) on anyone's top 5-25 list for years to come, but lately he has been producing some pretty decent and nice melodic stuff. call it cheesy if you like but i enjoy it

Posted by stefanoc on Feb-28-2006 08:23:

as a dj, i always consider atb all the way at the bottom. the guy doesnt have the gift IMO to be a great dj.

i always admire him for being such a great producer, but lately his work has been a bit more dissapointing. im not saying that he sucks now but im enjoying his productions less.

thinking about movin melodies, it sounds cheesy now but its still such a beautiful album to listen to. beach vibes sounds so simple but very relaxing with the guitar and wave noises with a few effects. movin melodies is also a great track for what it is. you cant say anything about 9PM and dont stop. his second album was also decent but you can notice from the 3rd album that hes starting to lack on the sounds he first made.

i still admire the guy though, and i would be very happy if i meet him. movin melodies brings me such good memories

I always enjoyed Underwater World

I enjoy most of his work

I will admit the 2005 version of Let U Go was shiet imo

9 pm till i cum

Posted by varun on Feb-28-2006 08:53:

ATB went down the shitter 6 years ago.

Posted by Aquarian on Feb-28-2006 12:43:

I liked believe in me and killer. But still, Addicted to music >>> seven years.

You just can't put ATB in the same box as the rest of EDM. His stuff is really to be seen as pop and not dancefloor stuff. But when it comes to melodies and vocals he's a very talented composer. And 'long way home' is an awesome song
