There's just something not right about this...

I was just browsing beatport.com when I came across this one tune that seemed... familiar. It's called 24 Covers by Silent Hill.. check it out before you read the rest...

...

..........

..

.....

.......

...The arpeggio line... hmmmmm, it just doesn't seem right to me (It's the startup preset from bank C on z3ta+ , same arp and everything )

I don't know anything about the artist, but it has the same melody, and sounds darn close to zeta

hey whatever works!!...id be surprised if he was the first pro to use it in a track..it really is a lovely arp =)

okay...now im gonna make it into a track....hehe

Can't remember the name but I also found a track on audiojelly that used a preset melody from zeta. Thought it felt kinda cheap.

a new martin roth remix uses the jupiter 8 preset, arp and all.

So what?
Marco V used a preset and arp of the Virus for his track God.
And there are many other examples of used presets and arp's.

Get over it...

I dont know how many of you TAs know and watch mythbusters but its pretty big so if you havnt seen it before check it out.
The whole shows background music consits of each of albinos presets.
There is actualy some other music but its nice to hear those soft albino arps on commercial TV.

Many title songs to shows on discovery contains loops from reasons factorysoundbank and other presets, I've heard it alot of times.
It's sad, someone get some money, lays out some tones, opens a preset, drag out some loop, and voila

You'd be surprised how litle they get...

Ok, that's probably true. But almost every TA Producer (and many other producers) dont think on money when they produce.
I do never think of money when i'm producing a track. Even though i would get signed, i would not think about money.
I am doing this for my own pleasure, and it's not fun to put some loops toghether...
Now, they sure spend some time on the tracks, but its still boring to use presets and loops.

Some people need to earn a living doing this (music) exlusively. It's just a job to many people. Creativity may not play such a big part..

There's a diference between art and craft

Craft = Making stuff to order, usually at short notice

Art = Labor of love

Mythbusters is the coolest show!! Notice how there is that english copy now. It is produced by a Sydney company (beyond international?). They also do beyond tomorrow, I am not sure if it gets syndicated overseas.

If someone wants a jingle, and pays you a couple of hundred or whatever, and they are not into studio music, why not use presets. Money for nothing really.

Posted by T-Soma on Mar-03-2006 04:51:

I thaught that beyond tomorrow show where just playing episodes of myth busters, i didnt know they actualy own it now. The english version (aka Braniac) is stupid they just blow things up for pointless/obvious results.

Let's face it guys, if you right a jingle, your audience is not going to care whether or not you actually crafted the sound or used a preset. Keeping in mind that you probably have to knock up a hadful of different versions for your client.

You can't compare dance music musicians with ad-men even though you get some dance tracks used in commercials.

And besides, if a preset inspires you to write a track, what's the big deal. It's what you do with it that counts.

It's what pisses me off about this industry sometimes, it's almost like there is some kind of trance uniform at the moment.

Bottom line is, preset or not, does the track work on the dance floor? If the answer is yes, PLAY IT! If not bin it as it's shit anyway.

Cheers
Nem
