any known "pro's" using intel iMacs?

anyone heard of any "pro"s rocking the new Intel iMac's in thier studios?

Probably not yet, given that their software won't work on it yet. At least I am pretty sure not much works on it yet. I know for sure Live does not work on them yet and I don't Logic does either.

that sucks. i need a new powerful/stable computer that actually works with my Motu 828..

Posted by wood0292 on Feb-28-2006 05:56:

Actually I think Logic is out for the Intel Macs. I was mistaken. You can also get a beta of Live for the Intel Macs, although I wouldn't want to use it until it is released and the bugs are ironed out. What programs/computer do you use now? There are plenty of other powerful/stable machines that will work w/ a MOTU 828 out there right now if you are skeptical about picking up an Intel Mac.

well the only ones i'm really concerned about are SX3 and Wavelab..waves plugs i guess..

Posted by wood0292 on Feb-28-2006 06:14:

Wavelab doesn't work on any Macs, does it? SX3 doesn't look like they have anything for the Intel Macs yet either. Sounds like you need a PC if you want to stick with that software.

cool. whats the most powerful then? those AMD dual core 64 bit things with like 4g ram? =)

Posted by wood0292 on Feb-28-2006 07:40:

Yeah, AMD 64 bit for sure, but I don't know if Cubase takes advantange of dual core CPUs yet, so it may be better to go w/ single core for now, perhaps a Cubase user on here could give you more insight on that. I just built a AMD Athlon XP 4000 w/ 2GB RAM and bought a firewire card for my MOTU traveler and am really satisfied with the setup.

Not sure if you need 4 GB RAM unless you use alot of VSTs, but it is pretty inexpensive so I don't see why not.

yes cubase supports dual core or dual cpu.

VSTs will mostly use CPU power whilst samples and things loaded from the hdd will use up the RAM.

cool thanks Wood. Maybe i will look into this. The Motu 828 has this common problem. It does not work with Winamp or Windows Media Player...which might not sound like alot but makes it VERY annoying to monitor any samples or sounds...or get ideas from tunes. Your lucky the traveller works i guess with windows properly....It is to bad your soundcard is not 64bit to take full advantage of the cp...or is it?

^ By monitor you mean looking at the waveforms ect? Use something like Goldwave and any audio splicing prog.

If not then just ignore my post

Yea. I'm not sure about those Intel Macs yet either.

My current processor is an Intel P4 3.2ghz, and despite all the wizbang stuff about it. An AMD chip of comperable value would trounce it.

My next computer will be an AMD build. And still not a mac.

The Traveler is 24 bit, same as the 828. The PCI firewire card I bought is 64bit, but only uses 32 as my board does not have a 64 bit PCI bus(don't know if they exist yet in the PC world).

To get it to work with windows media player I had to go in and set the device in the windows media player options to "MOTU Analog" as I also did in the system sound settings. It worked fine after I did that. I had to do the same for winamp and iTunes, and I imagine it should work the same for the 828, as the drivers are probably not very different at all.

well i did that and it has this weird screach......its a common problem... =(

Posted by Monkey Mouse on Mar-01-2006 03:10:

MOTU has Intel Mac drivers available on their website - for the 828 no less....

OT, but World of Warcraft has just been updated for Intel Macs.. the temptation grows...
