pioneer djm 500 vs 600

I've decided to get a new mixer and I had my heart set on the djm 800 until I saw someone was selling a 500 in slightly used condition for $600 with final scratch 2. my only hesitation is that the 500, being a slightly out of date model, might be an unworthy investment. I'm aware of the kick ass features of the 800 (namely the auto harmonic detection), but I think the price is just too much. but the djm 600 I don't know much about. does anyone know how the 500 stacks up against the 600? is it a noticeable difference, or is the 600 just a shined up version of the 500, like the CDJ 1000MKII and CDJ 1000?

500/600 both quality mixers, but one thing that I think sets the 500 back behind the 600 is not having the cue/master knob to hear what your mix is going to sound like in your headphones. I do realize thats mostly for those who mix in their headphones (like me), but sometimes if the sound quality isnt too good on the monitors...it really helps alot.

Also, the sampler from the 600 is not on the 500, I have no experience with that though...

PS: Checkout Ecler

The DJM600 has built-in effects and the 500 doesn't. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I stand corrected. So much for my knowledge of the 500.

You're wrong.

^^^ your incorrect the 500 has effects, pretty much the same as the 600 bar a the filter and transform, these are irrelevant in my eyes, im a proud owner of the 500, had no problems yet. i was in the same boat with 500/600, but im glad i got the 500 now, who cares about a sampler, the qualitt of the sampler isnt great either, and the headphones problem, bah what a load of tripe, theres no prob at all with having no split cue, you get used to it in no time, the 500 to sum up is simple and got what you need, theres no point in spending the extra 100+ or whatever it is now on the 600 if you ask me, the 500 does the job great, like i said ive had my 500 for over a year and a half now, no probs at all. if i was you id get the 500 deffo.

The 600 has split-cue, more effects, and a sampler. And the effects are beat-synced. Well worth the added cost. I used to have a 600, and loved it. I never even considered the 500. I'm not a fan.

But, nowadays, there are several mixers I would rather have than a 600. DJM-800, Xone:62, Xone:92, Ecler Nuo5. I would rather have a Xone:32, a Rane Empath, or an Ecler Nuo3 or Nuo4 than the 500.

Auto Trans: Periodically cuts the sound.

Auto Filter: Periodically varies the sound color.

just basically another effect which can be effective if used at the right time, but is heavily overused by many dj's, just another effect at the end of the day mate, its what you want out of the product, remember the 500 still has effects if thats ur game, i rarely use them though, but they r good to have.

save your money son, get a 500 if you were dead set the choice between them 2 mixers (500/600), but there are better mixers out there at a cheaper price.

unfortunately not everyone can afford a club mixer@$1500

Also, the 600 has effect depth control, which the 500 lacks.

the 500 and 600 are not shite mixers. they're a real workhorse and ive never played in a club that didnt have one installed. yes there are better mixers out there now but there was a time when this was the best thing on the market.

Aren't the eqs on the 600 deeper than the 500? I got lucky and found my 600 for only 650$ brand new. I absolutely love it. I disagree with the statement above that the sampler sucks, I think its awesome. I would definitely go for the 600 over the 500.

Yes, they are.

I really liked the sampler on mine, too. I used it more frequently than the effects. Mine was bought new for $689. Sold it six months later for $600, in perfect condition.

Paid $1400 for my Xone:92, and it was well worth the extra cash.

well, for the record I ended up buying the 500 for $500 and I really like it - especially the EQs. the guy I bought it from used to own a 600 as well and he said the only real difference between the two is the 500 is missing an effect that's really cool (filter I think) and it doesnt have split cueing.
