Arrow Microsoft's New Handheld/Super Prentious Flash Animations FTL!

So microsoft is releasing a new handheld device whose intent, to my understanding, is to finally complete the gap between Game Boy and PDA in a manner that the mainstream public will actually buy.

This site (Click Here), accessible through microsoft.com, has the apparent introduction of the device through an absolutely rediiculase flash animation...

Now, I'm all for cool looking flash animations, but there's nothing I hate more than not being able to skip past the uberlame introduction and get to the info I actually want... even if it is just a teaser.

What does everyone think about this (The Device or the Flash Animation)?

origamiii!!

looks cool but it's not something i'd ever buy.

p.s. your dorkiness gives me a turn on.

way ahead of it's time, it'll ultimately flop since the demographic this product is directed too will probably not be able to afford such a device. Great concept, without a doubt and a prime example of cutting edge technology, i just think that it's a bit ahead of it's time before it can be something widely used by everyone.

Hmmm... seeing as I can already play Gameboy (and NES/SNES/Megadrive) games on my little pda, I see no reason...

i think this sounds great. I really dont need a PDA because i would only use it for playin games or something. So this sounds perfect.

The fact that i could use it as a remote for media player, play games with better graphics, and IM makes me want it.

If theyre targetting a demographic between game boy, and a PDA then wouldnt that be to say its not going to cost a bazillion dollars. Then again the way these things usually go im not very optimistic.

Translation: Microsoft are trying to get into the GBA/PSP market and will fail miserably just like they have with the Xbox and Xbox360.

I don't think the Xbox can be considered a failure... But would be interested in hearing your argument as to why it is...

Posted by THE_Chris on Feb-28-2006 21:10:

Well the 360 mainly. Microsoft screwed up so, so badly with the distribution of the thing that its embarassing.

The older Xbox wasnt as bad, although the PS2 was superior in every respect.

The animation is gay, only because it doesn't lead you to anything. Why would anyone watch it right now when no data will be avaliable for a couple more days? Thats alot of thought, effort and design that is more or less for naught.

As far as the device goes, it looks cool and it probably has high functionality, but I wouldn't want one right away. Id pay like 200 maybe 3 for it....

that shit is wack. i'd love to get one of those
however, i do agree on the flash. worst crap ever. very weak

"touch me" lol

xbox was totally not a failure and obviously better graphics than ps2 so plz dont fanboy TA.

xbox 360 wouldve been cooler if it was cheaper/not relying on hdtv.

I'll agree that they fucked the 360 launch up in a serious way, however, my guess is that the true test of the 360 as a console won't begin until Christmas season next year, and will only be ultimately clear following the launch of both PS3 and Revolution. I personally think the system has a lot going for it, but only time will tell, and that time is certainly not now...

As far as Xbox vs. Ps2, I actually prefer the Xbox. Significantly higher quality games IMO make up for the relative lack of games when compared to the PS2. However, I'd also concede that I'm likely in the minority with this opinion.

True... I think we can all agree tho that PC > *

It is huge, and ugly.

Posted by bas on Feb-28-2006 21:51:

Xbox is a failure because Microsoft is continually losing money on it. It costs more to produce than they can sell it for.

isnt ps3 going to be the same scenario?

As far as I know both consoles will cost more to produce than they will sell them for (supposedly)

They make money from selling the games, not the consoles.

As well as peripherals, but yes, companies make little to no money, or in some cases (more than just Microsoft), they lose money on the console.

Profit margins on games and especially on peripheral devices are absolutely insane...

Handheld?

Nothing handheld about it apparently wayyyyyy too big.

Also doesn't this look like a recycled and already failed version of tablet pcs!,?
I've actually never physically seen a tablet pc .... wonder if I will ever see this "handheld" M$ piece of kit.
