-- A mix for your "non-edm" friends
A mix for your "non-edm" friends
If your like me then you have no other friends that are into edm, techno, trance, etc (whatever you want to call it). I have been urging my friends into trying out some of the music that I have personally grown to love. So I decided to create a mix that I could fit on a regular blank cd and be passed around to any of my friends who wanted to give this music a chance. This mix contains heavily commercial tracks and the mixing isnt that great. But the point of this mix isn't for people who are deeply into this genre of music. Its meant as a "introductory" mix for people who are totally new to this type of music. I added tracks that were all choons at one point in time or another and that the I noticed the majortiy of people liked. So please, dont bash the track selection or my mixing "skills"!
So far I have a 100% success record with this mix. I am 5 for 5 when it comes to converting people to understanding and liking this genre of music. I made the mix back in January and passed it out to some of my close friends. 1 of them is now a complete Erick Morillo head. 1 loves PVD. And 2 of them are coming to Boston to see Ferry Corsten with me. The other one hasnt fallen totally for the music, but he keeps asking me to make him more mixes cause "loves driving to it". Now, I am not guarenteeing anything and I know that some people will think that this whole concept and thread is stupid. But if anyone is like me (living in a city with no "club"/"trance/house" scene) and you dont want to travel to other city's to see shows by yourself, then you will understand totally. I am not guarenteeing anything but just give it a shot....
Hand it out and let them come back asking for more...

thanks, let me know if there are any other wrong ID's
I recently made this double mix of trance to introduce people to the genre, which has gone down really well:
Part 1:
1. Chicane - Offshore (Disco Citizens Remix)
2. Jam & Spoon - Stella
3. Energy 52 - Caf del Mar (Kid Paul Mix)
4. Mirco De Govia - Epic Monolith
5. Tiesto - Suburban Train
6. Dance 2 Trance - We Came In Peace (John Digweed Re-edit)
7. Cygnus X - Superstring
8. Union Jack - Two Full Moons & A Trout (Caspar Pound Mix)
9. Binary Finary - 1998 (Matt Darey Remix)
Part 2:
Tracklist:
1. Underworld - Dark & Long (Dark Train)
2. Sasha - Xpander
3. Tilt - Twelve
4. Fluke - Slap It
5. LSG - Netherworld
6. PPK - ResuRection (Space Club Mix)
7. Lost Tribe - Gamemaster
8. Paul Van Dyk - Forbidden Fruit (BT & PVD's "Food of Love" Mix)
9. Age of Love - The Age of Love (PVD's "Love of Ages" Mix)
10. Mike Oldfield - Let There Be Light (BT's Ultraviolet Mix)
The mixing is very rudimentary (blends in ambient sections and sharp cuts on beats), but it allows the tracks to stretch out a bit. I think fucking around with commercial tracks to introduce people is a bad idea: these are all high quality yet credible trance tracks that anyone with an open mind should be receptive to (ie, not go "techno shit").
Honestly, last summer Purple Haze - Adrenaline was a big hit with a couple friends of mine who didn't listen to trance much. Same with the Essential Mix from Digweeds set.
The above and beyond remix of the madonna track is 50x as good as oakenfolds. The antillas remix of just be is better than the original
Just my 2p worth
DJ Tiesto - Touch Me
^doesent exist.

I just made a mix for my boyfriend who is a metal head. LOL! But I think he rather enjoyed my selection. Just threw in Tijs, Ferr, PvD...the regs just for a taste - he's in for it on part 2 though
'I Found U' alone is enough to put anyone off EDM.
Ke55: Eh, it's a start. It won't get them very far from the pop mentality on the way towards trance, though. If anything, it'll get them to accept the 4/4 beat. You could definitely at least put in some credible prog tracks, like Flaming June, Netherworld, etc. Even some remixes of them would have been nice.
System-J: That one looks like it's the shit. It's got an excellent mix of oldschool, progressive, and epic. Not enough psy or acid, though. Could use more of those.
at least give your friend the correct names of the tunes

I don't try to force my non EDM friends to listen to my EDM collection. I think everyone should have an open mind, I won't force my friends to listen to EDM, if they want to listen to some of my stuff, then I'll let them borrow it.

| Originally posted by SYSTEM-J I was going to throw "Acperience" in there, but I couldn't really fit it in, and it's a bit heavy for the uninitiated. |

| Originally posted by Aquarian I dunno.. I think psy is more of an aquired taste. At least for me it was. I remember when I first got into trance, I was completely turned off by any kind of psy or goa. It bored me to death. I only hooked on the melodic and emotional stuff, the rest came after. |

I really don't care about intruducing EDM to my friends anymore. I've given up a long time ago explaining the difference between trance and techno.
EDM haters are like creationists. There's no helping it.

I find that making them listen to cheese first is the best step if you want them to get into EDM. eg dj alligator.. well hes not cheese but you guys might call him cheese
