Tech Support - Happened Just Now

Yet again my Bluetooth device has failed on me on my notebook...

HP Compaq nc8000... lucky comes with 3 year warranty and work supplied... it has had 2 motherboards replaced, 1 LCD replaced, the bluetooth has been replaced already. The fun continues... NOT!!!

On the phone with customer support HP in India

Lady: what is the error message you receive

Mario yes the fault is The Bluetooth device cannot be found even after I install and re install the drivers, turned if off.. plugged it in, plugged it out anything else

Lady could you repeat the original message..

Mario The Bluetooth device cannot be found.

Lady Could you spell that for me please

Mario No sorry you should know how to spell if you work in a technical support role...

Lady One moment while I check what the problem could be

Mario Sigh

Not to be an ass, but it's partially your fault for buying something from a company that outsources it's tech support

Vote with your dollar!

The company I work for outsources our internal tech support but not our product tech support. I FREAKING hate calling the help-desk.

The company buys HP products.... they have warranty... but to get them fixed you need to call HP to get them to come out and fix it...

I don't make the decisions.. I prefer Thinkpads...

You know why technical support sucks most of the time when it's outsourced?

It may be obvious but it's the exact reason why it's outsourced that makes it so horrible.
Company wants cheaper support options so an outsourcing provider offers them the lowest priced package with the lowest operating costs.

I worked in a company that had a big phone call outsourcing section and everything was done to cut corners and make the calls cheap which often meant the employees were very poorly trained.
I coordinated a lot of the gathering up of training material from the companies we were providing the outsourcing and let me tell you : they don't give you sh*t to work with. So crap info from company means poor tech support means dissatisfied customers means lost business for everyone. What a joke.....

At the end of the day I think companies just wanna get rid of taking care of their customers cause today's industry standards are horrible and very few affordable products are of any decent long lasting quality.

good example of bad out sourcing...

My boss(head mechanical designer) ordered a part so he could make a press. This assembly consisted of two parts to make the entire press. These parts are vital. It is the bottom plate and the rod which goes in the plate via a hole. Well the rod would not fit into the hole and my boss and I were skeptical why this rod would not insert into the hole. So that meant we would have to open up the hole or turn the rod DIA down. Well WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD WE HAVE TO MIDIFY A PART THAT WE BOUGHT. To our relaization there was a sticker on the back and it said "Made in China" We were like Its not just those 1$ toys you buy in the toy stores.

Here is the good part of the story. My boss calls the vendor we bought it from and he said this was not the first time they got complaints about this part and others.

OUTSOURCING = CHEAPER = FASTER = LESS QUALITY CONTROL

It probably won't happen, but Schumer and Graham are talking about slapping a huge tarrif on Chinese imports. China devalues its currencies unfairly according to economic rules and the dollar suffers as a result. Additionally, they have a high tax on American auto parts (which, including full autos, one of America's biggest exports) so we sell alot of their goods and they sell few of ours.

Greenspan has spoken out against the tarrif (~27% on all Chinese imports) and it will probably never go down, but we've got to respond somehow
