Punchy House kick

I want a nice punchy house kick.
either a sample or a good guide on making one.

In return here's a little tip on side chain ducking with reason 2.5.

Just run you kick and bass to a Spider audio merger splitter, then that through around 4 compressors, with the ratio high and the threshhold low .

now kick me!

I can't upload anything at this moment, but if you want a puchy House kik, you must layer some different kicks.

I don't know for Trance, but House can benefit so much of this technique. Take 2 kiks: one deep and boomy and another with good attack. Filter out the low freqs of the second and layer it with the boomy one.

You can compress the two kicks, for a more punchy sound, and the best you can do: remove the "sub-sub" bass out, maybe 20 or 30hz, with a high pass filter.

Depending of the type of House, I don't use a kick with less than 250 miliseconds in lenght.

Maybe if you put some reference tracks, we can have an idea of what you want.

Hope this helps

thanks.
I dont have time to upload any, but the kick on this page is nice: www.myspace.com/petedickens

Is Audicity good enough for creating these kicks?
I have sounde forge and Waves somewhere around here but not installed.
also, does Audicity have a high pass filter?

To me creating a kick drum from scratch isn't a good idea, at least for certain genres of House Music like Deep, Lounge, etc. For Trance, it can be very useful.

I've never created a Kik drum in Audacity, so I can't comment. But Audacity has some nice "native" filters, altough I prefer the Gold Wave filter.

Have you tried Stomper Hyperion? Of course, we're speaking about free software...

find yourself some 808 samples

theres a nice 808 oldskool style to sample yourself from Planet Rock by Afrika Bambaataa

nice string in the beginning, but the second sounds very weak, and that part should be the strongest, like the original :P
don`t have to use the exact same sound, but it has to stand out.
(not to far in relation to the substring)

That vengeance essential house looks good, I think i might buy it. The club sound one was quality, I'm just wodnering whether they can do house as well.

I'm looking to get a french house style kick, like a jaqcues lu cont one. Real low and boomy. Does anyone have the vengeance essential house and can recommend it?

Cheers!
