This website is intended to provide the latest information concerning the issues surrounding bargaining and a possible strike at Ontario colleges by the union representing college faculty.

A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page has been created to answer general questions. Please refer to links on the left for more information.

i'm at GB too...what classes are you taking that aren't giving you a reading week??

if it's Seneca, you can probably get updates from the York U current students page (because Seneca has a campus at York)

Man... I don't know what York was smoking when they allowed stupid Seneca to share the campus with them, that's soooo retarted!

i'm @ GB @ Casa Loma and it's very likely. keeping fingers crossed b/c if the strike is on we'll have our exam next Tues. postponed by at least 2 weeks. hehe! i guess you can just keep checking the news or call up your college.

Last I heard the strike was called off at around 6:00pm last wednesday. If things have changed since , I havent heard about it.

Yes last wednesday. We were in class and the teacher said he wasnt sure, so we were all expecting it to happen. But when I came home, they said on the news that they had dropped it because of certain reasons " I didnt understand what they were talking about" So as far as I know, there isn't one. I go to Seneca @ York btw. And we were all informed that there wasnt one anymore. But I don't know now because people are still asking about it. But all Im saying is that I was told there wasn't going to be one.

Are you referring to the CUPE negotiations? The teachers strike has not yet been resolved.

oh ok. well, as far as i know from our discussions with the instructors at GB yesterday and the day before, they weren't even sure and just told us to keep watching the news or calling in to find out - also b/c we have mid-terms next week ... which would be great b/c i REALLY don't feel like studying this w-e. so i need to know!!!!

It can still happen..

Therell be no one at the head of the class if thousands of college teachers across the province follow through on their threat to strike.

Nearly 9,000 full-time professors and librarians at Ontarios 24 colleges have vowed to walk out March 7th if no deal is reached with the schools.

Represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), members are pushing for smaller classes, more teachers, and more faculty time for students.

The union is also looking for what it calls "appropriate pay rates" between high schools and universities in order for colleges to hold onto its staff members.

Employees voted more than 80 per cent in favour of labour action last month, but theyre talking this week in the hopes of avoiding a strike.

Colleges' spokesman Rob Savage argues that teachers are being offered a 12.6 per cent wage hike over four years.

He says that would boost a professor's salary to more than $94,000 annually by 2009.

Students at George Brown College, one of Torontos largest facilities, are infuriated at the prospect of missing classes because of a strike.

"Students are constantly being caught in the middle of strikes and are tired of it. We are fed up with the persistent cutbacks that result in students being played as pawns," said Nathan Sheils, vice president of the schools students association.

"We want to be heard not only by our own educational institutions but by governments (municipal, provincial and federal) that have the power to fix the problem."

The association has demanded that the Ontario government reimburse students for the cost of missed classes, as well as any incidental expenses that might be involved if the semester is expanded or contracted due to a strike.
