Serato Scratch Freekin Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a newer Dj... only been spinning for like 4 months. I got some TT's for xmas and it was cool... you know ~ i was learning and messin up and getting frustrated. practically about to give it up!! 2 weeks ago i got serato scratch and let me tell you ~ it kicks serious ass!

this program makes perfection possible and for a newer dj, it puts you years ahead of where you should be. I can mix flawlessly for hours and some of my mixes are like 5 min long ~ and they're perfect!!! well.. a couple vocal overlaps, but other than that they are perfect.. I already have like 100 sick ass tracks in my library and the cost was minimal. It just keeps getting better and better!!!!

I havent been around long enough to give advice, but i must say ~ If you dont have serato scrath > GET IT!!! The best 500 bucks i ever spent... (be careful if you get one off of ebay ~ research the seller)

what kind of laptop do you have and how much did it cost you?

Posted by theGecko on Mar-03-2006 09:20:

i jus picked up serato a couple of days ago and it does kick ass ive been mixing with 1 turntable and it has worked flawless. im using with a dell 700m

Posted by discobiscuit on Mar-03-2006 14:55:

lol i use a desktop PC... i went for the instant gratification of buying serato before buying a laptop... i'll get one soon, but what kind... i have no clue.

most laptops should be able to handle serato... it only needs 1g and uses 156mb of ram and thats standard on laptops. (500 bucks)

when i get a laptop, i'm gonna shoot for 2g and 300+ mb of ram so i can run more than 1 program. (800 bucks)

if i get ableton... i'll prob end up getting 3g and 500+ mb of ram and a expensive ass sound card (prob around 1500 for everything)

by everything, i mean the computer and soundcard... if i include ableton and a decent midi controller, it will cost me well over 2,000 bucks.

while im happy you're happy, im at a lost how you feel using SSL has improved your mixing vs mixin regular vinyl

you said:

beforehand you mentioned you were struggling to mix on a regular TT setup.

so i asked:

im at a lost how you feel using SSL has improved your mixing vs mixin regular vinyl.

pretty simple really lol

are you serious? it's pretty obvious.. you can see what you're mixing. instead of using 1 sense (hearing), you use 2 senses (seeing and hearing) and it makes it a lot easier imo....

So instead of learning how to beatmatch, you're learning how to line up marks on a computer screen...

haha i know eh...

Posted by Rememberence_ on Mar-04-2006 21:39:

I can see how having the waveform in front of you would help with cuing and phase matching, but I'm not convinced that you can benefit from a waveform when it comes to beatmatching decently

i also don't understand how SSL can improve your mixing so much. got anything recorded?

Posted by s3nate on Mar-05-2006 00:41:

I find it is easier to mix when I see the wave form when using Final Scratch. However it does not help me beatmatch at all.

Posted by auujay on Mar-05-2006 01:32:

I have been using FinalScratch for a few years. I think only thing that it helps make the mixes easier is the fact that you don't have to deal with wierd records anymore. I remember when I mixed with regular vinyl I had a few records that were harder to mix not because of the sounds but because of the crappy pressing. That is no longer an issue with this sort of setup.

Basically, he's using Serato's waveform to beatmatch, instead of his ears.
