Confused My first mix for the TAs, feedback appreciated (for further development)

Hi there,

I made a mix for myself last year.
It was thought as sort of a "warmup-mix", something like before the mainact of the night starts his set.
See the playlist, I think u can see the big picture [and many of my tranceheros!] =)
The whole time I wanted to get some feedback and now I've found TA!
So I hope the people here will like the set and maybe they can give me some feedback (trackselection, mixing etc.).
I'm a beginner, so, u know, feedback is everything!

So here is the link: [[ LINK REMOVED ]]

(just for those of u who don't know how it works: wait till it counts to zero [close the ad-window in the right upper corner] and then download the file)

And here is the tracklist:

Whiteroom feat. Amy Cooper - Someday (Instrumental Mix)
Mike Foyle vs. Signalrunners - Love Theme Dusk (Mike's Broken Record Mix)
Armin van Buuren Pres. Gaia - 4 Elements (Extended Mix)
Delerium - After All (Svenson And Gielen Remix)
Paul van Dyk feat. Second Sun - Crush
Red Flag - Pacific Memory (Albert Vorne vs Max Savietto Remix)
Hemstock And Jennings - Mirage Of Hope (Lange Remix)
Jas Van Houten - Heavens Gate (Katana Mix)
Ralphie B - Massive (Original Mix)
Cor Fijneman ft Jan Johnston - Venus (Dj Tiesto Remix)
DJ Tisto - Flight 643 (Original Mix)
Marco V - More Than A Life Away (Original Mix)
Leandro Gamez - No es Otra Cosa (Oxia Remix)
Tranquility Base - Razorfish (Above & Beyond Bangin' Mix)
DT8 feat. Roxanne Wilde - Destination (Jurgen Vries Remix)
Kyau vs. Albert - Made of Sun (KvA Hard Dub)
Kyau Vs Albert - Falling Anywhere (Rework)
Ridgewalkers Feat El - Find (Kyau Vs Albert Remix)
Nu-NRG - Dreamland 2005 (Adam Sheridan Remix)

As I said, hope u like it and it would be nice if u could tell me what u think. If it's bad, that's ok, then tell me why =)
If it's good, that's even better...tell me what has to be changed to make an even better mix

Wish u a good day or night!

Question Got no feedback for me?

Hey to all the TAs out there,

got no feedback for a new and ambitious TA?
Is the tracklisting really that bad?
Just wanted to know, as we say here: "No answer is also an answer".

Thanks anyway, it was worth a try.

Personally, I like the mix, but the playlist has quite something in common with older PvD Sets, doesn't it ;-).

We all know sets from PvD and Tiesto and the songs they play. It is very difficult to create something "new", I know. There is only a "a limited number" of tracks a trance DJ can play. But however try to find a personal style which someone can distinguish from others. Mixing and transitions are good. But would you be able to do them live in front of a crowd?

Hey Jaroquai,

first thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it!
Yeah and u've guessed right, I got in touch with trancemusic through PvD and Tiesto so I mostly listen to their sets and they inspired me to do this mix. Can't fool a pro, huh?

As for the transitions and stuff...u are right again, it's all "home-made" ... I don't think I could do that in front of the crowd, I mean, not with that quality. Have to practise much more, but if everything goes right I'll get an external soundcard very soon...I think, then my live-mixing-quality will get better....I hope
Maybe then I will post a new mix!

Thanks again for your opinion, wish u a good night!

I'm just a professional listner, not (re-)mixer. Therefore I really appreciate your effort. The critique is based on my listening experience ;-).

Hey Noob. This set could definitely be way better. But first, lets touch up on the technical side of things. I noticed I had to mess a lot with my volume when listening to your mix which can only mean one thing: work on your volume leveling and gain. On a similar note the 2 Kyau vs. Alberts tracks that you used are in mono and the sound quality overall is horrible. I cant tell if its poor equalizing on your part or you have bad encoding software; either way fix that. Moving on, I didnt notice any beatmatching errors so a big pat on the back for you on that regard.

Now lets shift focus to the art, that is, deejaying. I have said this many times before, but djing is a lot more than slapping two tracks together insync. There are certain skills that you cant learn on a technical level. Its more of a gift and being able to take people on a journey, learning crowd control and their reactions. Things like that cant be taught. You either have it or you dont. Another aspect of deejaying is the music. You have to learn your tracks characteristics such as where they break, where they start, drops/gains, melodies, effects, harmonics, and so forth. In a nutshell it is the ability to maintain a great build and flow. Once this is established youll notice certain tracks dont go well mixed together and do not compliment each other (flow). Youll also realize that the energy of certain tracks differ from one other and that you have to adjust accordingly (build). All in all work on what Ive said and maybe you too can be recognized amongst other of TAs stellar dj talent such as Stu Cox, dj metatron, and others that Im missing at the moment.
