Arrow Review: Brad Copeland at TiL (March 3rd)

retarted!

- beautiful venue
- killer soundsystem
- hot crowd
- rockin DJ (re: tunes)
- great crew

The place was busy and people were in great spirits. Brad's set was incredibly well programmed, packed full of future house gems and heavy heavy basslines.

Thank you TiL for giving us Toronto's best new DJ residency!

sounds good, i'm looking forward to hearing roger sanchez there in a few weeks.

Posted by daves on Mar-04-2006 17:27:

totally agree there jon, nice night and nice seeing you guys again 'the crew'

was my first time in the place, and it's a reallly nice looking place

- even though i'm a smoker i wish there was no smoking inside and an area outside to do it... only thing i don't like really

Posted by jon jon on Mar-04-2006 17:47:

- Demi "Gearbox" (good trainspot Ray)
- Charles in the booth, random

Brad kept me dancing the whole night.. especially after 3:30 he was pumping wicked dirty tunes for the hardcore who hung around..

thx to jon for convincing me to go to this.. wouldn't have missed it for the world..

the place was really starting to clear out by 4am, but IMHO the only reason there were still people there was _because_ of brad..

bah, shoulda came...

i was very close to it too...

Posted by joinT on Mar-04-2006 18:13:

you shoulda come ryan, you would've liked it for sure..

also would like to mention the staff were excellent..

the little things are nice (having our coats which were checked upstairs brought to downstairs coatcheck - saving us some running around when we were leaving)

beware, there's no loot in the loot bags... just flyers...

you should have Ryan! Graham and I was there... another plowbuddy would have been nice.

Brad was awesome. Very good bassline... had me going nuts on the dance floor. I think this was my first time seeing a full set by him. Other times he just opened for some headliner and wasn't that spectacular. But last night he proved that he can dish it out like the best of em. Good seeing a bunch of peeps out. It was nice meeting you daves and Ally. And big surprise of the night... Chris all the was from Calgary. Good seeing you having a great time there buddy! Just wanted to add that TiL is now definitely one of my favorite venues. The staff was much nicer than what I saw at Deep Dish and the crowd itself was very pleasant and seemed friendly. It's nice not seeing a place full of sketchbags and just mature people partying it up.

great review jon
"retarded" sounds about right for an extended copeland set...

Posted by Ace_of_Spades on Mar-04-2006 20:25:

Brad copland had a decent set the nite before Deepdish .He really impressed me .

WIsh i could come to this.
honestly i'd more tempted if i went to Til instead of goin to guvi tonite.
but i am gonna hit TIL up in next weeks.

cheers.

HOLY F*CK

THIS ALONE WOULD HAVE CHANGED MY MIND......WHY DID I NOT HEAR ABOUT THIS????

Posted by The Highroller on Mar-04-2006 22:10:

Was I at the same party as you guys? Lol. I didn't really enjoy his set. I thought it wasn't going anywhere, and that he was all over the place. No flow to his set whatsoever.

The crowd had its advantages and disadvantages. Hot crowd, but a lot of people were standing around.

Tunes were great but it wasn't anything extraordinary. I'd give Brad's set an 8/10. How I missed Gearbox is beyond me...

Crowd though, left something to be desired for. There were a few good-looking girls but besides that, it was like...all guys.

Overall, I still had a good time, but there was something missing.

Ok, maybe that was a bit harsh. He did a good job with his set, but I just wasn't feeling it. What I like in a set is for it to "go somewhere", but I just didn't feel like that was what he was doing. A lot of other people enjoyed the party, so he must have done something right.

I think I know what you mean, he didn't really "epic anthem-it" out in the end. Fair comment.

No one has mentioned his consistency technically either, poor bastard was perfect for 7 hours. lol

I think I pointed that out to Ray mid-way through the night too. Spot on almost everytime. I have the Muscle Cars track stuck in my head. Pleasntly surprised (not that I was expecting bad) last night, had a great time, loved all the big bass too, ^5 to Brad.

Posted by slingshot on Mar-04-2006 23:15:

on a side note i just figured out that ^5 means high five...

good for you slingshot, good for you.

Very true. I was very impressed by his technical skills.

Yeah, the bouncer i spoke so highly of got fired.

Glad to hear the staff was friendly, it was really the only thing i disliked about the place from my experience.

exactly! .. hell put some gum or something in it with the flyers

Posted by Skipper on Mar-05-2006 14:02:

that flyer bag pissed me off. such a waste of the environment. let people decide what flyers they want to take instead of forcing them out IN A PLASTIC BAG.

when flyers come in bags, that's a sign we need to start re-thinking flyering altogether. so excessive.
