what can you guys tell me about Bill Laswell's music?
is it good? does it suck? what's it like?
If I'm thinking of the right guy, his work is really dubby, downtemp, bass heavy; in the likes of Kruder & Dorfmeister... if that's him.
i dont know what kind of music he does now, but in the 80s he worked a little with PiL (public image limited), which was john lydon's project after the sex pistols and post-punk like. he also worked with jah wobble, who did some work with PiL in the earlier days.
i have no idea what his music is like now, but the things i have heard i would almost classify them as experimental.
He's a bass player, he's done all kinds of stuff. Dub..ambient..funk. you name it.
I haven't heard that much of his music, but I can recall some of his famous collaborations with Pete Namlook and Klaus Schulze on a couple of the "Dark Side of the Moog" cds, and with a bazillion other artists in all kind of genres.
He produced an album for Herbie Hancock long ago (I think it was his breakthrough, around '80 I think?), remixed Bob Marley..
Here's a link to his rather extended discography: http://www.turning-groove.de/DiscoLaswell.html
I thought Pete Namlook had a big discog, but this one ain't bad either.. mah000sive
