World Baseball Classic

So I am a huge baseball fan and didn't even realize that this was starting today, but it did.

What are your thoughts on it?

It seems like a good idea when compared to similar events in other sports (World Cup, Canada Cup's of old and World Cup of Hockey presently), however I think there is potential for a flop because people don't take it seriously.

I hope it works out because I think it could make for some awesome ball, but I'm a bit sceptical.

Hopefully it will bring a new meaning to the term "world series"

As long as the U.S.A. does well in the tournament it will continue to run...I'm affraid that outside of the USA and Japan (if it's being broadcast there) this will be a flop.

Should be a good tourney but I don't think Canada will do to well against powerhouses like US, Dominican, Puerto Rico, Japan. Look for one of these teams to take it all

I'm a Boy of Summer 100% !

I played baseball since I was a kid, in Montreal, and in the US.

I play in one baseball (harball for you Ontarians) league (in Newmarket), and two softball leagues. I can't get enough.

actually, it started a week ago.

Canada's opening game is today.

Canada will beat South Africa today, and will probably beat Mexico as well to make it through the round robin.

Canada will lose to USA in the first round of the tourney though....

Go Japan.

We always welcome new players in Newmarket (21 and up). Drop me a PM if you're nearbye. My league plays only on Sundays, so it doesn't interfere with work or Saturday plans, unless you're sketchy the next day, lol.

For Toronto, league contacts are found here: http://www.torontobaseball.ca/

I also played for Scarborough Senior Men's League (if you're 29+), and the more competitive at Highview Park in Scarborough.

PLAY BALL!!!!

the highview league now plays mainly out of wishing well at vic park and 401. unfortunately the highview homerun is no more. its a good fairly competitive league.

Canada vs South Africa game on right now on Sportsnet

Posted by shanny on Mar-08-2006 05:29:

Canada having a bit of a scare, looking like they might make it through it...
don't want to jinx them though.

Miracle on DIRT!

Honestly I have fallen away from baseball in the last 10 years. But watching Cananda beat the US in their own game was fantastic. As cocky the players were and as partisan the announcing was, at the end of the game Canada schooled em!

Fuck yeah!

Posted by TO guy on Mar-09-2006 14:41:

Yeah, that was a pretty sweet game. I was a little worried there in the fourth (I think it was), when Canada gave up all those runs. I could just see it getting worse, but they held it together and game through. YAY.

Posted by DigitalMP on Mar-09-2006 14:45:

Wow! If Mexico beats Canada 1-0, 2-1, or 2-0, the US is out of it before they even play South Africa!

Posted by Matt on Mar-09-2006 17:26:

Canada vs. Mexico today @ 8pm

I'll be in rehearsal
