Smiley DJ Trax to play at a party.....

I've been asked to bring music to a party on Saturday....

any ideas on what to bring? The crowd is gonna be pretty mixed, and they may not all want to listen to Trance the whole nite. Unfortuneately, i'm terrible at knowing what the collective whole is listening to these days! My question to you is what would you bring?

Thanks!!

Cool

if you have a burner and generosity to donate a few CD-Rs to a party....it would be best of course...

bring a mix.....
look for some well known stuff in...

-rock/alternative
-trance/house (losta house msuic likers out there)(I prefer Trance but who cares)
-and some hip-hop...

whats the age-group?

Posted by Ultraphu on Jan-25-2002 04:22:

I would say mostly 18-25 range...

lots of diversity, lots of cultures will be there.. some people from South America, Europe, and Americans.

I hate those sort of party's, but tracks u should take are ones one...

Salt N Pepa - Push it
and commercial trance...
umm ATB???
SASH!???
shite like that....

i know it sucks but hey, if u want the ppl to listen its gotta be these stuff.... Genereally what gets the crowd going is something they can sing too... eg Grease Lightning.

ENJOY hehehe

I thought you ment trance, but how old r the peeps, coz that old stuff may work for a bit, but i would advise playing stuff you like, they will like it, just keep it hard, lol

Posted by Hell_Copter on Jan-25-2002 17:25:

i would have to say
play iio- rapture
everyone knows it... but if they don't really like trance play the original mix... the one in MTV

Posted by flystyler on Jan-25-2002 17:56:

Ahh and if you are going to play this: Michael Jackson - Billie Jean use the bushwacker remix, or the other one, that slips my mind

do u mean the
down and up remix??

Posted by Ultraphu on Jan-25-2002 18:38:

awesome!

keep the ideas flowing, cuz i assume the majority of the people attending have no idea about the sounds most of us crave.... and i've no idea what the rest of the "mainstream" people are listening too...

Posted by mellankali on Jan-25-2002 19:04:

while it's hard to know what a crowd is gonna like, i would suggest brining a variety of music. i guess to play to a mainstream crowd, play mainstream music. hip hop, alternative, cross over, house, and some "cheese" trance as everybody has mentioned would be my suggestions. maybe some house too. i usually bring along some easy mixing retro/new disco, because most people can dance to that. gets 'em moving i guess to know what kinda music they want, turn on some popular radio station, check out what they are playing. just my two cents.

I have to agree with hell copter. iio - Rapture is a sure bet. just play a mix with a good bass line. The deep dish miami dub is good and avb mix as well.
Another main stream 'dance classic' is Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby. Shitty song but excellent bass line .

Id say goto ur local music store, look at the chart cd's that are of mised music, in the uk there are ones like NOW 51 and BIG HITS 44 etc, they have dance/trance/garage/pop/cheese/rock and reflect the current trend of the general public, base ur play list on this but add more trance just for luck!

Bring some shitty "MTV hits",most of the crowd should know some of MTV shit so they'll be happy.
It's hard to choose pop songs when you're a trance addict

Sweet Lord. Play Agnellit & Nelson - Hudson Street(new york mix)

Every house party i have spun at including the ones with people that wernt into electronica someone has always askes me the name of that track.

Posted by Special_K on Jan-26-2002 01:58:

Shit. I just read the other posts in this thread. Ok do your self a favour and DONT play any ABBA or salt and pepper. i mean sweet jesus...i guess if you want the crowd to laugh at you go ahead.

If its a crowd that isnt into electronica then bring hip hop and shit.

Jester Easy mistake

Don't do the mistake I did.

I had a gig not too long ago and I thought to myself: "I will show these no good, top 40 loving, simpletons what REAL music is like". It started well enough...I played some easily digested trance in the beginning but then started playing some real dark, thumping (awesome in my ears) trance. It was loud, it was fast, and it was awesome.

Then I started noticing people standing next to the booth staring at me. Not like: "Oh my God, he is soooo awesome and I have to have him now", but more like: "What planet is this dude from, anyway?

Luckily I got the hint and not wanting to ruin my budding DJ career I submitted to the masses and played shit. There is a moral to this story. I am not entirely sure what it is but the bottom line is this:

People are sheep, play shit and make them happy. Then go home and cleanse yourself with airwave - rank 1 or something.

P.s. This only applies if you are a new DJ at a club/gig. If you have an established audience play what you feel like and screw em. Then again, if you already are an established DJ you would not be reading this drivel

Posted by Special_K on Jan-26-2002 08:23:

Ya man there is no point forcing people to listen to electronica. I mean lets face it there are a hell of a lot more people that hate it then people that love it.

Posted by DJ Dingel on Jan-26-2002 22:27:

Barkmull - what music made the crowd happy? I'm DJing my high school's "Techno Mixer" and trying to decide if I should stick to real electronica or compromise a little.....

Posted by Raptor on Jan-26-2002 22:37:

all i have to say bang COSMICMAN - I LOVE YOU & all GOURYELLA tracks haha... thats what iw ould do! they said bring music you have to show them what you like...

Posted by Special_K on Jan-26-2002 23:04:

if your going to play electronice play somthing Dark and hard. People that dont listen to electronica tend to not like floaty/epic trance. at least thats what i have noticed
