NASA is planning to make a huge announcement today, about possible life in our own solar system.

Exact details of what we can expect to hear have not been released. We do know that evidence has been found that could point to life relatively close to the earth.

Official word is expected this afternoon at 2 p.m. We'll have complete coverage of today's big news when it is released. Tune to News 13 for the complete story.

The Drudge Report supposedly has the press release already...

Long story short:

quote:

NASA's Cassini spacecraft may have found evidence of liquid water reservoirs that erupt in Yellowstone-like geysers on Saturn's moon Enceladus. The rare occurrence of liquid water so near the surface raises many new questions about the mysterious moon.

"We realize that this is a radical conclusion - that we may have evidence for liquid water within a body so small and so cold," said Carolyn Porco, Cassini imaging team leader at the Space Science Institute, Boulder, Colo. "However, if we are right, we have significantly broadened the diversity of solar system environments where we might possibly have conditions suitable for living organisms."

Go Cassini!

The Cassini spacecraft has found evidence of liquid water spewing from geysers on one of Saturn's icy moons, raising the tantalizing possibility that the celestial object harbors life.

I dunno. Is it me or something is odd? Icy = too cold. water = frozen

Unless they're talking about some sort of volcanic geysers.

Or am I being too skeptic?

water + minerals freeze at a much lower temperature ...
so i guess if its coming from underground , then it must be mineralized , impure water ... so it stays liquid at lower temperatures

There are creatures capable of life in sub-zero temperatures - we've found them in Antartica definitely. And just 'cause they say "life" dosen't mean it's as advanced as humans are - more like mircobial, unicellular life or maybe, MAYBE a slightly more complex organism but highly doubtful.

Don't forget Yohan, the farther down you do, the hotter it gets. The surface of the moon may be frozen but the interior can be very hot.

Thats it?!?!?!

They told me this on National Geographic Channel like 4 months back.

What about the supposed 10th planet in our Solar System??

Or the further investigation of Mars?

I couldnt give a shit about some crappy frozen water moon.
