Stand up for yourself

This is something as rare as a success story from real life!

Some years ago I bought all my CDs online (as that's the only place I can get them) and all of them with Visa. Unfortunately the company went bust, and consequently didn't grab all the money from my account that they were entitled to.

OK, I held on to all the invoices (as I had difficulties in deciding which of them had been drawn from my account), and in fall I got a letter from a debt-collecting agency telling me that I owed the CD-company an amount of 124 dKr (about the price of a CD).
I paid it right away and thought that it was nice to have that sorted out, but then today, I got two new letters from the agency - one of them the same as I had already paid, and the other stating another amount that I couldn't match with any of my invoices. Hating to pay payment fees at the post office thrice (for someone elses fault), I called the agency demanding to speak to the one in charge of my case, and consequently told him how mad I was.

Taadaaa - he closed both cases and told me I wouldn't hear from them again. I just had to share it with you

Usually I dislike upsetting people and am probably inclined to let them have their way (although I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm anxious to please in an extreme way). But having this victory in mind, I came to think of if I'm better off always doing the opposite? Obviously seeking the confrontation would yield a negative attitude towards you? Any thoughts?

thats pretty good, yea if you know you are right, got to speak to someone in charge
like when my car was about 200 miles from the warrantee being up, i had a problem with the fuel injection, i took it to the dealer and the guy told me it is supposed to shut off the way it was doing, and i knew, for having driven the car 35,800 miles, taht it isnt supposed to work like that, so i spoke with the manager and got them to take a look at my car, and what do ya know, it needed a new fuel pump, so never settle for anything if you know you are right

Funny that you mention this. I just got a bill from my cable tv company. Its trice the amount (1500 skr!) I am supposed to owe them..

I know what you mean when you say its easier to avoid confrontation. To take the easiest direction is sort of human. It doesnt work in the long run tho.. People will take advantage of you.

thats great trancaholic!!

The big corporations (and lawyers) push us around all the time... any time someone yells at them and wins their case, that person gets a pat on the back from me.... they ask us to feel sorry for them and they're just "doing their job", but their "job" consists of hasseling us.. and just think of how many innocent people actually paid that didn't even owe money... they're still making out in the long run.

Kudos, and more power to ya!

That's funny, I haven't receieved any phone bills for about 2 months and just now the phone company called me saying that I owe them $162.83. And now the f*cker put me on hold!!! I'll let u guys know what happens later....

I guess over the x-mas break the mail was so slow that I never got my cell phone bill. I got it and they said that due to the delay I was being given an extra 10 days to pay the bill. that left be 2 days before it was due. I didnt pay it on time, they charged me a late fee, and I said fuck no. they took the late fee off and gave me a $10 credit for the hassle caused.

woohoo! $10 for free!

In 2000, Rogers (wireless net company) kept adding 15 bucks to my bill for another cell phone.. I never even asked for it. So month after month I keep calling those idiots to stop adding the option! Cripes, I must have call the co. 4 times before they finally stop doing it!!

And what did I get for my hassle? ZIP.. Cheap-ass! This co is national brand name too! I'm considering stopping my cellular service but there's nothing out there that suits me.. ::grumble::

nice story man... One of my teachers was actually saying about all his complaints... he is a regular at it now because of all the stuff he gets for free....

He bought some toy for his kid and somethign was stuffed, he rang up the company hotline and went off at them and then they got his details and sent him a whole load of toys...

another case,

Something was wrong wif some cat food or somethign and he rang up the company and went off again, and they sent him all this stuff for his cat and heaps of free cat food... (i know alot of cat lovers in here, might want to try it)
