CDJ-800 Loop Trick?
Can someone help a n00b out please. We have CDJ-800's at the Club tomorrow, and when we get pissed anything goes. Including fancy loop tricks.
So just wondering, what exactly do you have to do to get that metallic sound going (when like a millisecond is being looped over and over again). I've done it before, but only by pressing a random combination of buttons. Cheers...

there's an In & Out button, first press the In button then the Out button and you got a loop, then keep bashing the Out button til it's looping one milisecond (by bashing the out button you can only make the loop smaller)

Do you understand the struggle a cdj800 has to go through? Or any cd player for that matter.. Spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning. |
quick and non-violent loop system rundown:
the CDJ-800 has manual looping, and auto looping.
auto-loop:
'1', '2', '4' and '8' buttons on the top left of the unit.
1: 1 beat loop
2: 2 beat loop
...and so on. this will do it automatically, and almost always it is pretty good. watch out with breaks records sometimes. now, if you have set a manual loop, the CDJ will set this as the loop in button 8; meaning, if you have a manual loop, and then tap the '4' button, it will cut it in half. the 2 button will cut THAT one in half, and so on.
manual loop:
two yellow orange-ish In & Out buttons sit at the top left of the jogwheel. the In button has 2 functions: setting a cue point in real-time, and setting the in point for your loop. so, press the In button on beat with the first beat of the loop you want. press the Out button at the end of the loop. you should have a loop running. if a loop is running, and you press the Out button again, it goes into Out Adjust mode, which is basically for fixing things when you set the loop wrong. the jogwheel now is used for adding or subtracting from the loop; spinning to the right makes it longer, to the left makes it shorter.
so, to get the effect you want, and not have it sound rubbish in the process, try the following:
tap on the '4' button. on beat, tap the '2' button. on beat, tap the '1' button. now, tap the Out button, and drag your jogwheel to the left till the loop is closed and you have a 1 frame loop.
next to In & Out is the release button, for when you are done makin noise...
