Smiley DJ Tranceaddict Mix Competition ! ! ! ! !

The TrancEaddict HOTMIX challange !

OK so we are all in the tranceaddict chatroom and tempestrip, myself and a few of the others all came up with this idea.
That we make a Tranceaddict Mix.
The idea is that we get 4 ppl from TA to do a 20 minute set each then mix 4 of those 20 minute sets into one 80 minute set.

What you need to do first of all is to post your name in this thread if you wish to give it a shot.

Then we will make a poll with all the prospective members and the members of TA will vote for the 4 ppl to do the 20 minute sets.

There will be a time limit to get your sets done so in the event of one of the chosen 4 not completeing their set by the finish date we shall also choose 4 understudies to also do a 20 minute set

The genre of the mix is Uplifting / Progressive.
Each 20 minute section is part of the overall mix, that means the 2nd person on the list has to mix in from the end of the 1st person's set
the 3rd person has to mix in from the end of the 2nd person's set and the 4th person has to mix in from the end of the 3rd person's set.

So post here if u want to be put in the poll for giving this a shot, also any questions u may have.

When we have the list of names we will make a poll and then take the vote.

Good Luck

Sounds interesting.....

Gotta few questions here. Ok...4 Djs....Dj #1 does his/her 20 minute set...then DJ #2 mixes in from the end of DJ #1's set. In what form will that be? CD...tape....MP3....WAV? So then, DJ #2 basically adds on 20 min to DJ #1's mix and then passes it on to DJ #3...and so on?
Also, why limit it to only 4 DJs? Why not have "teams" ...where you would have "team A" which would be 4 DJs.....and "team B"...which could be another 4 DJs....and however many teams you want? Then you would end up with more than one 80 min. set and you could see which "team" comes up with the best set? Just a thought.
That would also give more people a chance to show their stuff.

Posted by Miss Proximus on Jan-26-2002 22:54:

I'll ask my BF to do it (he's an excellent prog dj)...but I wonder...how is this done?

Is this live mixing online so that the 2 dj's can follow up on eachother right at that minute? how else can you mix 4 different sets and make it one?

confjooooooooooooooooooooosed

The teams thing is a good idea but, we didn't want to make it too complicated as this is the first time are we going to attempt it. If all goes well maybe on the next one we'll try to work it with teams. As for now i think its better to keep it small as possible so it doesn't get lost in its own hype. It can be cd/mp3 or vinyl what-eva medium you prefer to mix on. But please none of that cool-edit or traktor mixing. If you are going to mix using software use vtt or pcdj.
The way it will work is lets say for instance i am the first dj and neo is the second dj. I do my 20 minute set. then send it to him in .mp3 he can convert to wav load into what-ever program he uses to record his mixes. He plays the first twenty minutes of my mix and from my last song he begins his mix. Once he reaches his 20 minutes. He then saves and he sends to dj #3 so on and so forth. Tempez

right count me in i would miss out on a chanmce like this i love this wacky kind of plan

Posted by Superscope on Jan-27-2002 00:19:

I am most certainly in! Just tell me where to sign!

Posted by DJ_D|ABL0_ on Jan-27-2002 01:28:

I think (as I understand) the whole point is to make an 80minute compilation of 4 TA sets. Four 20 minute sets are mixed into one another, and voila, we have a CD's worth.

It's not necessarily done at real time (I don't think we're actually all that good yet), but once you have completed your 20 minutes, it can be mixed into three others, and we end up with an AWESOME set.

EDIT

I saw TranStreemAdmin's set available but it's already deleted. Is that a bad sign?

PS- I tried my tracklist 2nite - I love it already. BRING IT ON!!

this is indeed the only way I can think of to do it, too. But this brings up a problem concerning sound quality: We will encode and decode 4 times until the mix is finished = Sound loss galore...

only other possibilty is a bit complicated: DJ A finishes his set with track X. He then tells DJ B "I finished with track X at 135.8 bpm". DJ B starts his set with the end of track X at the same bpm. Tells DJ C the track with which he ended his set and so on.
Then everybody encodes once and uploads to some webspace. The last DJ (or someone else with the necessary skills) downloads all 4 parts, decodes to .wav and joins the sets in cool edit or something similar. That way the mixes will only be encoded twice. (Or is there a prog that lets you cut up and join in mp3 format?)

Hope I didn't loose everybody...

Posted by trintiy on Jan-27-2002 13:19:

DJ Dawn's idea seems better than encoding or, The four Dj's could agree to record onto a cd and mail it to one another as they finish. For Example Dawn records his 20 min set onto cd mails it to me I then run that through my mixer and begin mixing as his set ends. Once done I mail a 40 min Cd to next person in line.

Posted by Johnny Eckhardt on Jan-27-2002 14:07:

More than likely, there's going to be the need for a "final" mixdown because when you have 4 different sets that were recorded on 4 different systems by 4 different people....well...the chances of the EQ and volume levels being the same are probably just a little better than the chances of winning the lottery......so someone (perhaps DJ #4) will probbably have to the final mixdown on it.

Posted by gibbo on Jan-27-2002 14:14:

i'm sorry to point out the obvious but what the fuck is everyone on as long as the but rate of the mp3s is reasonably high the sound quality will be ok and wtf is everyone goin on about volume levels for its easy to balance them all that needs to be done is the next dj balnces out the decbel level on the mixer and sorted any dj with a quarter of a brain can achieve that.

Posted by Johnny Eckhardt on Jan-27-2002 14:35:

Well...I've only got 3 brain cells left...so you'll have to excuse me.

Posted by Impulse on Jan-27-2002 16:33:

mix cd

dude count me in for this!! as for the method of mixing, the idea that after one dj finishes his mix he would send it on to the second one. the second one will take it out, load it onto his cd player and start mixing...and the process goes on. whatever you decide, make sure its good with everyone involved in this.

Posted by DJ Sarah H on Jan-27-2002 17:21:

wOOt ! nice to see so many ppl want to get involved and some good questions coming up.

OK, 1st off No one has to do their mix yet, a couple of u already have done them already, so far all we are doing is establishing who wants to enter.

The next step which will be this coming saturday is to make a poll where ppl can vote for 8 ppl they want to do the mix, 4 will be the main producers and 4 will be the back up's.
The order in which u mix will be decided by how many votes u get.
Most amount of votes = 1st to mix and so on.

I am not too sure u would suffer too much quality loss thru decodeing and rencoding as it will only happen 4 times, this does not have to studio quality. This is something that we do need to work out thou so again keep the ideas coming in.
There will be a time limit(not sure how long this will be yet so your input would be appreciated) so trintiy, your idea of sending a CD to everyone may not work. althou it's a good idea
The people doing the mix will have to communicate with each other for things like the track list, we dont want 4 tracks the same in each part of the mix etc.

The end mix will need to be in 192kbps MP3.

Any more questions etc, post them here . . .

PS: Tempestrip and myself will also be putting our names down for the poll
