A JP Party worth attending??
Looks like JP's moved his way up the ladder to strip club DJ.

Hes like Janine Garraffalo (sp?), the word no is not in his vocabulary.
weird
i heard scores got shutdown..i must of gotten misinformed
he needs a better manager. The guy placed really high in this year's Top 100 DJ's poll, and its not like the guy has no talent or anything. i don't get why he hasn't broken out of the tri-state area. maybe if he did he would start drawing better crowds locally.
a JP party worth attending?

I don't know what the amount of gear he uses has anything to do with him being a joke...James Zabiela is currently using the same exact setup...2 cdjs, MIDI equipped mixer, Powerbook, Ableton, and an FX box. JP is very technical and can do a lot more behind the decks than most of the big named djs out there now. he draws a horrible crowd and often has to play to cater to that crowd, thats the main knock on him, not that he is a shit dj. |

I've never seen JP live, so I can't speak as to his live mixing skills, but I know that he's come out with some bangin' mixes from a few years back. The S&M party mixes from Soundfactory are pretty sick... the 2003 especially. That's a tight 2 CD set with some of the hottest house music of the day slamming as JP mixes. I still listen to that CD, so I'm not sure what the big deal is about him being a bad DJ. Though I am not a DJ (it's just my forum name hehe), I would think that using more equipment isn't neccessarily a bad thing. Let's not slam people for using too much equipment as we're beginning to sound like those guys that hated Dylan (back in the day) for going electric. It is EDM after all, and more synth and more equipment running is generally a good thing. Of course I agree when you say that much of it is unneccessary, but then it doesn't detract from his set either.
Now, I'd like to see JP live (I'll probably show up at the next S&M party... if there is one), just because he is so famous in the greater New York area, being one of the few DJs that is relatively well known to people in the NYC club scene. Many of my non-EDM freinds (a sad bunch) have never heard of Paul van Dyk or Ferry Corsten, but just so happen to know somebody that went to a JP party or two. Also, hehe, I'd like to see JP spin just so I can experience what exactly you guys mean by, "A JP crowd". I always thought that the regulars that fill the back of Crobar are bad, so I can't wait to see the JP guys hehehe!

| Originally posted by zizack according to who? Clovis from TA? he uses 2 laptops, same as a lot of other djs / acts. Most clubs come standard with 3 cd decks and 3 TT's. he doesn't use TT's anymore so he uses laptops. so what. I'm by no means a JP fan, but most of the criticisms of the guy are done by people "who have heard" things about him. Get off the bandwagon and form your own opinion of the guy. |
i think jp has skills, and i've had a blast at a lot of his parties. does he loop stuff for an hour while comes back out of a k-hole... yeah. but he still spins some hi-nrg sets. def draws the guido/meathead crowd though but theyve never bothered me or tried to start a fight with me or anything.. idk, i usually keep to myself and the group i go with anyway...
some is cheesy vocal house stuff, but he can get pretty dark sometimes which is what i like...
