Donating Blood

There is a blood drive going on this friday, and I would really like to donate. However, I read that you feel a little sick and tired afterwards. I also run track, and I read that donating blood reduces your ability for a few days, although it can take a few months for the red blood cell count to come all the way back up to pre-donation levels. Has anyone donated before? Notice any effects? Should I do it?

Do it. All that stuff you've heard is BS, unless you're a 90 pound weakling.

If you run track, you're already presumably a pretty healthy guy. Eat a good breakfast that morning and go donate. The dizziness comes from a change in your blood sugar after you donate, but it's seriously nothing to worry about. Just don't go work out afterwards; take the day off. You'll wake up the next day and be fine, and feel good that you did a good thing.

i donated blood last year (we had a blood drive at school). I'm just barely over the weight minimum...and i felt really lightheaded afterwards (good excuse to get out of class) and pretty much passed out when i got home. during the drawing blood process, it was kinda uncomfortable, but not painful, i don't really do well with blood. but i did see one kid go into a seizure, which FREAKED the fuck outta me. but yay i helped do my part.

you should be fine after a day.

Youre thinking about this a little too much. Youll be fine.

I cant donate blood, even though Id like to. I tried to back in high school but my veins were too small. They tried to get a vein with that monster needle for like, a half hour. When they finally wrecked my left arm up enough, they asked me if they could try on the right. Haha, I was like SURE! Why not?

Ive done it a few times, its cool. Afterwards make sure u chill for 10mins. Drink something, and have a biscuit - dont just take off like mr cool, ive done that once before, bad move.

If I didn't have a fear of needles, I'd do it. I'm a wuss.

done it twice, it's really easy and kinda cool/strange to see it coming out of your arm as long as you haven't gotten body piercings within the past year and stuff like that, you should be cool...

i would like to do it but i don't have enough iron in my blood...

When Chuck Norris goes to donate blood, he declines the syringe, and instead requests a hand gun and a bucket.

its pretty pain less for me i give all the time and never feel lightheadded or anything afterward. You shouldnt have a problem at all! Like coup said drink something and eat good before you go and you will be fine. They normally give you juice or soda during the process too.

Piece of cake.

Remember, blood is important, and you just lost a reasonable amount.

Don't try to get to active for a couple of hours or day or two depending on your weight/size/health. In college ppl used to sell plasma for research then go boozing with the money: you get paid and get drunk easily ... double win.

But seriously, just take it easy and you should be fine. I try to give whenever I can but trips to the third world prevent you from donating for six months. .... or having unprotected sex with a prostitute for that matter.

Same thing happened to me. They've never managed to hit the vein. Not even once.

Last time I tried (about 6 months ago) I went home with both arms covered in bandages and people on the bus were looking at me funny
