Read the stories on NBCnews or CNN

Nothing up on CNN yet, here's the msnbc article:

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military said on Thursday it had launched its biggest air offensive in Iraq since the 2003 invasion of the country.

A military statement said the operation involving more than 50 aircraft and 1,500 Iraqi and U.S. troops as well as 200 tactical vehicles targeted suspected insurgents operating in Salahuddin, a province that includes Samarra, a town located 60 miles north of Baghdad.

Initial reports from the objective area indicate that a number of enemy weapons caches have been captured, containing artillery shells, explosives, IED-making materials, and military uniforms, the military said in a statement. IEDs are improvised explosive devices.

The mliitary said the operation began Thursday morning and was likely to continue for several days.

This report will be updated as information becomes available.

Sounds like a pretty major operation. Wonder why they didn't try this sort of tactic 12 months ago?

More weapons and more anti-occupation sympathizers will pour into iraq and make it more bloody. This is so great!!! Long live the american administration

Is 50 aircraft really all that much? Sounds like this is more for show than to actually complete a specific mission objective.

Posted by occrider on Mar-16-2006 20:52:

Are the Navy Blue Angels in the Baghdad air show?

Posted by josh4 on Mar-16-2006 22:54:

The operation is being run by the army!

I'd say 50 is quite a bit.

The U.S. military said there was no firing or bombing from the air.

Sounds like they went out and deployed troops by air at strategic locations and if they saw anything out of the ordinary. A bit more impressive than just sending trucks, i guess.

With George Bush as commander in chief, we are certain to loose the war on terror. He's to stupid to be in charge of the U.S. military.
The only thing he's done right is prancing around an aircraft in a flight suit declaring "the war is over", and running up a giant debt.

Why doesn't he catch Bin Ladin?

This whole operation looks more like spying/infiltration operation into Iran, than something to do with Iraq.

I have the same feeling, although my first guess was that they were gonna strike Iran and this was a way to calm down the Iranians despite the huge militairy activity in Iraq (to say that this was an attack on Iraqi insurgence), oh well it might still come

Really? Do you expect to win a war in 2 years? Whats going wrong in Iraq? Democracy is being build, people have voted, soon the Iraqi millitary will take over. We are in there for a long terms. Id rather have Bush in here then Kerry or Clinton, because both of them are weak, and honestly I dont see any good democrats that can do a better job then Bush right now. Democrats are weak when it comes to foreign policy, and I hope we dont get a Democrat in office next term, because we will be doomed, but I hope I'm wrong.

I see that the brainwashing has worked really well on you.Bush should be proud of people like you.

No, Americans are slave to the economy. We have a beautiful land because its filled with malls and starbucks thats all what the American needs for the land to be beautiful and for them to not give a shit about anything. Americans are slaves and the gov will never have to worry about what they do because Americans are too busy working so they can buy coffee from starbucks.

That's the problem. Bush is a liar.

First we went there because Iraq "had weapons of mass destruction". When they were never found then the reasoning became "Saddam Hussein is a bad man". Now the reason 2500 American Military Service men & women are dead is "Were trying to spread democracy". If that is the case then how come we dont go spreading democracy & freedom in Saudi Arabia & Africa, and take out the leader of North Korea.

Bush is a liar, and people that believe him are gullible & stupid.

Remember Bush's biggest lie when he pranced around on the deck of an aircraft carrier ( even though he's a Vietnam draft dodger ) declaring "the war is over, the war is over". Like now, I would seriously believe that any troops are coming home before next christmas. Also I when people call Kerry weak they are simply lying, trying to slander him to make Bush look better. Kerry served his country, Bush & Cheney were spoiled rich kids who "had better things to do".

What a beautiful country, where the government doesn't give a fuck if low & middle income workers get sick & die, and that everyone in Louisiana drowns & also dies. Obviously Bush considers it more important to rebuild Iraq ( even though everything we've been building gets blown up ) than to fix our own country. He's nothing but a fuckin traitor. I wonder who's pocket he's in.

I'm sure if he's not from an extremely wealthy privileges family of the type that doesn't give a fuck about everyone else, that Kapedan will change his views when he enters the workforce & has to deal with things such as health care, and taxes which are still high and mostly go to pay debt interest & Iraq rebuilding costs.

Kepedan, aren't you worried about the rapidly inflating costs of University & College tuition & interest. America will soon no longer be a country of equal opertunity, because lower income youth wont be able to afford college, and we will have a permanent underclass in America. I suspect that is what Republicans want, because on average the lower someones education is, the more likely they are to vote Republican, which especially explains Alabama & Mississippi being the reddest states in America.

You think like a socialist man, you want the goverment to do everything for you because your lazy ass cant do anything about it. All liberals do in this country is brag and brag and brag about anything because they cant get thier lazy ass together and do it themselfs. Do you want everything to be in low coast? How do you expect the economy to develop? If we have everything in low standards so that poor people can afford it, then whats to achieve in this life. Every person needs to achieve something in this world by thier own, the goverement is there to help us and protect us, but not for reasons like you mentioned. Liberals piss me off on every ******* thing almost.

Bush did this, Bush did that. Why do you blame everything on Bush? Being in Iraq is a good thing for all of us in the long term, your fellow democrats were for going to Iraq and everyone thought there were weapons there, it wasnt just Republicans, so I guess Bush didnt like if everyone else seemed to agree with him in that point. Katrina? Isnt Bush helping them? Money is going to them, yes it was a few days later then it should of been, but the information wasnt given to him correctly, its a mess up. All you hear is Black people sayin, Bush is racist, Bush is this, I mean c'mon. If you blame Bush for all of your lifes problems, or for anything that happends in this world, I really cant argue with you and I are in different levels. I can also say as a republican, that there are a few things that could of been done better, but people make mistakes.
