I hate silence.

fuck.

Last night was over my friend's place and mixed for close to 10 hours straight.

Today, silence is killing me.
And when I listen to choons, it feels like happiness is flowing into my ears.

Thought I'd share, kthxbi.

Funny you say that, right now I'm listening to a 5 hour set that me and one of my buddies mixed at his house one night

I honestly start going mental if I don't have music playing 24/7... The tinitus in my ears rings loud enough that I can hear it no prob and it drives me up the fucking wall...

I don't have to have music loud.. but it HAS to be playing all the time..

Posted by Spirit5 on Mar-18-2006 05:24:

Yeah I hate silence too, esp while driving. I have to listen to music LOUD. I hate the noise of the engine running and all that other stuff (I have a 10 year old car, so it's not like newer cars where you don't hear the engine hardly...like my mom's Honda Accord). The same thing while at home...noise noise! I guess some silence sometimes might be a good thing though.....better for your hearing!

I am also a silence hater, I dunno what it is, but I can't seem to chill or even sleep without music, and when I'm not listening to music, I whistle tunes or kinda play them in my head, I do actually think I'm addicted to music, if thats possible, its the one thing I can't go long without, music for me really is a drug.

I need music when im walking outside/in my office or whatever, but that's mainly because I hate background noise. I hate it if see somebody I know when im walking along the street, interrupting me mid-tune . And I get cravings in the middle of the night, like i NEED music, NOW!!!

But I give my ears a rest sometimes, when there's not much background noise.

Posted by T-Soma on Mar-18-2006 11:38:

I listen to music nearly all the time but when i sleep i prefere dead silence i even sometimes unplug anything electrical in the room so i dont even get the slightest hum (i think may have sensitive ears)

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Mar-18-2006 12:32:

Funny, lately I've been the completely opposite. I just don't feel like playing music when I'm home at all.

Same here. I've been listening to a lot of Loco Dice and Richie Hawtin to help me get to sleep recently. I can't even remember the last time I went to sleep with no music on.

Posted by zoric on Mar-19-2006 11:07:

I'm very addicted to music, and playing it is currently what I'm doing all the time.

I can't sleep without music, It's basically weird and this is something I'm not very used to. Sleeping to music is something that I'm very used to, I sleep twice, At night and after school and I've got music on all the time.

If I would meet a person on the bus, town or in any other place, I would still play the music and try to avoid the person unless it isn't a person that I like very much. I know how much it sucks when I meet people that I know and when the track is on it's midpart (Almost always the best part).

When I'm home, I often go to my room and turn on the music while I'm on the computer. But when I watch TV-shows/TV in general and I'm interested in the show, I can't listen to music and that's why I turn off the speakers for a while and let them rest.

These are just my own thoughts, but-

I think listening to music vibrates the inner ear in such a way that pleasure centers in the brain go off.

There was this experiment with rats on X and the results were that the rats that were exposed to loud music actually got a longer and more intense high. (Dont ask me how this was tested)

So, im thinking even without drugs people still experiance some sort of chemical release that causes pleasure - basically,

no music = withdrawl

With you on this one,it just gets to a point when you get musical overload.
Although I think there may be a difference between people who make music and those who play other peoples, only speculation mind you.

There are times when the last thing I want to hear is music full stop.

Cheers

I've had people over non stop the last 3/4 days.. Too much partying, there has been music on all the time- But I'm still good. COuple hours at the end of the ngiht when everyone has left I'll chill in silence, but I still sleep with music.

I am so lucky to have friends that are really into music. I can hit them wiht anythng good and they love it. House, Trip Hop/Lounge, ethnic stuff, dnb.. it's all fair game at my place!

Damn it man you are lucky - none of my friends like dance music (except the ones that live like 1 million miles away). One of my friends actually doesn't like music at all. I even go clubbing alone, most of the time. Sad state of affairs.

I make a point to surround myself with musically minded people. Makes life so much better. Not that I shun people who aren't as open to music, I'm usually just not best friends with them, just the way it works out.

lol i'd have no friends at all if that was my philosophy. I get on with my friends in other ways though. I mean it's not as if music is the only interest I've got in my life. Just a shame that theyre all part of the "I like all sorts of music" brigade (meaning that they don't really LOVE anything).

I find it's usually me that finds the banging tunes and bring them to my friends attention but i'm lucky to have a Dad that likes a varied and incredible taste in music.
I went out the other day and bought some old Orbital, Underworld, Slam and BT albums, then when i got home, my dad asked me what i got, he looked at them and said "I've got all of these already, have a look" then he opened up his cupboard, and behind the Leftfield, Fatboy Slim and Pete Tong Cd's, there they were.
How cool is that? My Dad is 50 this year.
I usually fall asleep listening to something relaxing like a classical piece or Dark Side of the Moon, or Amnesiac by Radiohead.

Hehe, yeah - when I still lived at home my dad constantly borrowed my Prodigy, Orbital etc. albums... I think he has all of the Kraftwerk albums on original vinyls too.

Posted by ZeJayMan on Mar-21-2006 14:36:

jeez, yeah, i never even mentioned his vinyl collection, crazy amounts of rekkids. I dread to think what i'd be listening to now if it wasnt for the good influence of father.
