[REVIEW] Jondi & Spesh + Momu + Nick Warren = NONSTOP MINDBENDING PROGGY BASSLINES!!!
Wow, first of all what a PERFECT lead in set Jondi & Spesh laid down for Momu and what a PERFECT lead in set Momu handed off to Nick. Whoever over at Spundae put this line-up together, hats off! All three sets carried the same sytle of progressive breaks with a generous amount of synth guitar riffs, brooding ambient effects you get lost in and crazy swinging basslines. They were all well-paced into each other and very consistent throughout. I would say close to half of Momu's set involved a progressive breakbeat sometimes with tribal and acid undertones.
Didn't hear any oddball tracks the whole night, just climbing energy with every record. As great as the openers were, Nick's set fucking kiiiilllllllllled it! Well that's the way it should be, Momu and J&S's started off slower and built up the party. The energy was already there when Nick came up. Wow, Nick... talk about seamless mixing and unrelenting track selection, the man is brilliant. Nick's crowdpleaser for the night was Mr. Brightside Thin White Duke Mix and other than Coldplay's Talk (Thin White Duke was the theme of the night) that was as "pop" as the set got. Everyone went goo goo for those songs though it was a pretty awesome sight.
So I was listening to the Just Music FM and The Rinse XFM sets on the way to and from the club and I've come to the conclusion that they are BOTH very similar to the Nick Warren I heard tonight. A good number of tracks from those two sets were in his set tonight. So if you want an idea of what you'll get at Avalon tonight, burn those mixes to cd and put it in a car with some slump. You'll hear what I mean
. I can't even imagine how fvcking nuts the basslines are gonna be in Avalon. Furthermore I can't wait till Nick Warren returns to Ruby Skye in two months. I've seen what Digweed can do to those EAW Avalon speakers, and Warren is very similar in the monstrous bass department.

EASILY one of my top five club nights ever.
Here are the two sets in case you missed it the first time.

the vids aren't that great. i thought i was covering the camera mic with my finger, turns out that was the speaker, so you have to wait for the bass to drop out to really hear the beat
Thnx for the sets! I always grab them. I already got the first one from hybridized.org. Dling the second now along with some vids here and there. I diggin nickwarren, good stuff.
I'll have to judge him tonight live, but that first set, while good eh...I dunno...its all progprogprog

| Originally posted by lex400sc well i said he played a lot of the tracks from those two sets (ie: bcml, ken thomas, wow, westbam, hybrid, speedcats, and yes he did drop no stoppin love) just cause i recognize them, but there were A LOT more tracks that i didn't recognize that i wouldn't call progprogprog. you'll see, i don't think you're gonna be disappointed especially with a set up like avalon's |
I think video 3 = The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary (Hyper Mix).
I think video 4 = Lostep - Villain.
