Watching a real legend- Goa Gil

Just saw fuckin Goa Gil tear it up on the tape decks.

There is nothing better than seeing a real pioneer play music. They are the basis of an entire genre. Always best to see a legend that hasn't sold out. This guy was off the hook. Absolutely insane. I don't even know where he gets the music he spins, and why on earth he gets it on tape, but fuck, perfect mixing, he had the best energy ive ever see from someone who just stands, moves a bit, and smiles. This was some fucking real shit, no watered down shit- Just great music. The club's decor was good, his vibes were great and the music was insane.

If anyone ever has a chance to go see this guy, please do so.

unless all the tracks are the same bpm and ur cue-ing is flawless or ur just mixing during breakdowns.

I dont know man, I dont listen to a lot of his sets, but live he was incredible. It was really dark, but really banging and not shit full on garbage shit shit shit.

Goa Gil is a legend within the goa community. He started off as a hippie and went to Goa in India in the 60s where he settled down. He was then a pioneer within the new trance movement which took off in the early 90s.
Together with his wife Ariane they make up The Nommos.
he is famous for playing dark and savagelike psy trance. a glimpse of this can be found on some of his compilations such as this:

K maybe not godlike technically.. but track selection wise he's awesome- and he does do pretty good on the more techical side... using tape decks and all.

I have seen so many fuckall psy acts, And i hadnt seen a guy play so well and to the crowd so well.

Livesets.. Pshhh.. whole different vibe in a party.

man trance critics is loosing my respect after nonsense comments like this. so pioneers aren't worthy any of your respect? in other words Oliver Lieb, Art of Trance etc are filth because they were early?
Goa Gil is not just a pioneer. He's been active producing and DJ:ing ever since he started within the trance scene.

and saying that he plays one style only is laughable. What is he supposed to play? disco house? Roger Sanchez plays house music only. Is that lame?

First. No. No. No! Pioneers deserve all the respect they get if they actually do something. DJ'ing, imho, doesn't count. Sure, you spread the music, brownie points for that, but you don't actually help it develop or anything. Everybody knows GG's productions have always been pretty mediocre.

About the one style, he plays only dark psy. Sure, if you like that it's great - I never said otherwise. But he could try some change just for once.
