What is Goth culture?

What's with people wearing black all the time and with all those piercings and stuff?

I find it retarded but that may be because I dun know what the whole deal is and the history behing Goths?

Whilist I do not see a point in dressing goth, or wigger or anything to symbolize the music you listen to, I still have to say that goth music is one of my fav. styles in metal, 2nd to death metal of course.
