Underworld. Appreciate!

This is the official Underworld appreciation thread.

The top 2 tracks for me, hands down are:

1. Jumbo
2. Two months off (sin Emerson )

-Jumbo-

brother there's a little sale on, uh, vests at, uh, Walmart?
...nine dollar.

- Oh yeah?

- eight some, yeah...nice little vest, light.

(hammer pounding)

click...

i need sugar i need a little watersugar
i get thoughts about you and the night it wants me
like a little lost child
locked in a safe place
lookin out the window
the dark move fast past
the window
the dark on the otherside of
the locked door

click...

my thumb's on a tetris keyring moving in brilliant timing
you pick up the phone
and i'm imagining

click...

tiny wires in her ears
(slide into the city)
tiny wires in her ears
(slide into the city

click...

- expected early in the mornin'

rising in the morning stopped to you (beneath the feet of the city)
click
you disconnect from me
click
when you're gone you take your century

telephone breath between us the whole world is between us
only these wires
dust between the wires
and the green grass

in the distance
i am your tourist

- expected early in the mornin'

moving in brilliant timing...

- i search for this spot then find you fellas hangin around at the same
stump...and you're right there with 'em

- well, i've never fished here, but i caught beaucoup fish in reverend
burton.

- i never did catch fish here

- beaucoup fish in reverend burton

i need sugar...
click...
- expected early in the mornin'
you disconnect from me

-Two Months Off-
There was a little drawing of a heart next to that,
followed by an exclaimation mark.
The back of his was covered in stuff... stuff like:
Brandon is not a very nice guy, but Alex is sooo nice.
And that had the exclaimation thing too.
It was just silly crap that hit the spot. And he let himself be drawn in.

you bring light in...

to a dark place
walking in light
glowing walking in light
gold ring around you
the hues of you
the golden sunlight of you

you bring light in...

cool wind following
following after you
rising for you
your skin beautiful
everything comes natural
fantastic fan
rocking rocking floating

Emerson > Price ?

I haven't heard Lovely Broken Thing or Pizza For Eggs. Fill me in.

Who's seen them live? Does the Everything, Everything DVD do justice?

Catchy, catchy, ultimate let loose tunes with Hyde lyrics that defy those of average EDM. So here's to UNDERWORLD. What was, is, would have been and is going to be. What in your opinions is that exactly?

Posted by montana on Mar-20-2006 15:36:

they rock

and i've always been most fond of deep arch, kittens and deep pan

The lyrics are just post-modernist stream of consciousness art. Or I think so anyway... I can never remember where stream of consciousness fits into literature. Underworld are a very arty act, which a lot of people don't catch onto. But they've also produced some killer records, especially early on in their career.

Are you subtly trying to devalue things produced via stream of conscious?

I've seen them live and it was awesome. I haven't watched the entire DVD but it seemed to render pretty good the atmosphere.

I think it's a pretty lazy technique. In Underworld's case, it means that the lyrics are much less smart than you might think.

Dark & Long > Stream of Consciousness

Posted by Estella on Mar-20-2006 15:58:

As far as literature, I know Burroughs, Ginsberg, Kerouac, etc all wrote by stream of conscious. To be honest, in regards of art/lyric/music, I wouldn't want to think my fave artist had to labour over what was produced. I wouldn't necessarily want editing, deleting, erasing, struggling, fixing, tweaking, yatayata. I think it's much more authentic for that creativity to exist and be put to use without much thought.

Ghost Smilie

just listening to recording of them live makes me shiver uncontrollably

favorites: rez/cowgirl (the version on everything, everything, oh man ), dirty epic, moaner

Dark & Long > Stream of Consciousness

I can see what you're saying now, I suppose. Some might consider lazy what others possess naturally.

P.S. Cherry Pie > Dark & Long

"Born Slippy.NUXX" and "cowgirl" are my Favorites, but I really enjoyed the Underworld "Rez" vs. Bedrock "Heaven Sent" (White Label)

everything, everything!

moaner, rez, cowgirl, two months off, born slippy....ahhhh

Posted by Quinders on Mar-20-2006 16:21:

I loved Beaucoup Fish. One of the best dance music albums of all time imo. Not a remotely poor track on it. Unfortunately I haven't been too into their stuff released after this with the exception of Two Months Off which was great. They will never get close to an album as good as any of their first three in the future, although I hope I'm wrong. Emerson is a big miss.

Big fan, always have been. Best tracks IMO:-

Banstyle / Sappy's Curry
Pearls Girl
Sola Sistim
Dinosaur Adventure 3D
Second Hand
Headset
Kittens

Best vocal bit has to be from 'Little speaker'

'I feel like I'm still growing sometimes, If I really stand up tall I just go fucking hell, I didn't used to be that tall'

i have it. its a live recording, although the music is synchronised from the album, with occasionally a bit crowd noise, therefore, its not 100% live. but its great though. little dislike; you sometimes miss the connection with the performance and the crowd, because of the way the video and music are put together.

anyway, i found it worth 100% top notch ...

my fav's
jumbo
2 months off
born slippy
dark & long
pearls girl

love the underworld fellas...my favs being

Dark & Long (Dark Train)
Push Upstairs
The Hump (Wild Beasts)
Jumbo
Cowgirl
Spikee
Confusion The Waitress

plus everything else hehehe

Oh yeah!

My fav Underworld tracks are probably the original Born Slippy (not the .NUXX version), Dirty Epic, Oich Oich and M.E.

Also their remix works are brilliant but there's still many to look for.. my fav Underworld remix is of Bjrk - Human Behaviour. Damn good.

Naturally as an Underworld wh0re i needed to get the Underworld editions of Adidas Superstar 35 sneakers when they became available.

Grreat, I'm excited! Picking it up this week

Grim: I flipped when I saw there was a Human Behaviour remix. Two solid, solid artists.. but for some reason I could never get into it. Her vocals and their beats just weren't in sync for me. What others are you looking for?

Posted by RickyM on Mar-20-2006 20:57:

Rez is a brilliant track.

I also like Jumbo, King of Snake and Pearls Girl.

Yeh i didn't like the Human Behaviour remix at first either but it has grown on me over the years and nowadays i like it alot, tho i enjoy most of their remixes even if some are absolutely weird.

A few Underworld remixes i still haven't heard or at least don't ever remember hearing are the Dub Heaven Mix of 'Mental Generation - Cafe Del Mar' and both mixes of 'Front 242 - Happiness'. Others which i haven't heard so far i can't recall right now. One of the few i don't like at all is the Hard Mix of 'Depeche Mode - Barrel Of A Gun'. Soft Mix again is a lovely piece of ambience, in a similar pulsating style than the ambient version of Dark & Long.
