FUTURAMA Returns!

dont know bout you guys, but i consider Futurama to be a really underappreciated animated sitcom that was pulled too early...it wasnt a ripoff of the simpsons, and the premise of the show allowed for a lot of creativity and tongue-in-cheek humor pointed at the present times.

and the characters just got better as the seasons progressed IMHO

so im REAL stoked that there are 26 episodes CONFIRMED to be released, although which network is unsure so far...

heres the article: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22782

sweet zombie jesus!!

I think Futurama is weak...The only guy holdin it down for Futurama is Bender.....He just loves gettin fucked up and is always finding himself in sticky situtations

this had so much potential as a show, and a few episodes were good, but it was like every other cartoon out there. zap brannigan for the win!

Love Futurama. I think the humor is much better in it than the Simpsons... a combination of slapstick and really smart humor like Family Guy. I knew a lot of ppl that didn't get the jokes in Futurama like they don't in FG and that's prolly what led to its downfall. I hope Futurama returns like FG did.

i felt that the writers had a lot more freedom on the show cause they based it in the future, and could really throw the characters into some really crazy situations without havin to explain themselves

remember the episode with human horn? or when bender becomes human and turns into an enormous fatass?

Posted by MunkyAngel on Mar-21-2006 00:59:

about fucking time! i'm getting sick of the old ones to be honest!!

I agree with that. It also allows the satire that the writers are good at to be expressed differently. In the Simpsons they'd just take something (rich business owners, incompetent police, stupid action movie clichs) and exaggerate it. In Futurama they can put that into a futuristic context so the satire is much more inventive.

An example is when they visit the Internet and go past the eBay room, and there's a virtual auction going on.

"The entire universe- SOLD!- to the creature of unspeakable evil!"
"Mwahaha."

There's even the Lovecraft reference thrown in with the visual gag. They could never pull that off in The Simpsons, which is why Futurama is better for me. Plus it has more genuinely great characters, rather than Homer propping up the whole show. And the Simpsons has gone to utter shit in the last few years.

I still like the one when the RobotDevil spins the robot wheel to see what robot hands Fry gets in exchange for his hands and then Bender yells out "COME ON RECTAL EXAM BOT!"
