Serban
Nice little website! Good luck with your DJing efforts and remember to always have fun and simply enjoy the music.
Hey I have only been dj'ing for about 6 months and I live in Richmond.
my name is elena, im an alcoholic and a wild partier in hiding, ive been spinning trance and prog for four months, i cant beatmatch for shit and i have no dj name
nice to meet you and welcome to TA
Oh yeah I don't have a DJ name either!
Everyone was born with a DJ name and that name is your own. Be proud of what your parents gave you!
Anyways, I'm Julian, been spinning since 2000. I offer new DJs records to borrow to help them get started.
My advice for starting out? Keep recording your mixes and listening to them. You can hear both your mistakes and good mixes. You will start getting a knack for what tracks go together, when/how to bring in tracks during mixes and definitely helps a lot with the flow of sets when you listen to its entirety.
And as I always mention, when live in the mix, don't touch the platter. PITCH SLIDE.
And I can always be reached via MSN: [email protected]
i always pitch bend when trying to match up the tracks.... i dont see whats wrong with it... its a lot faster and more accurate than playing arround with the pitch slide....
The difference is when you're live in the mix and both tracks are coming out of the speakers.. you will hear the correction with the pitch bend. Yes this is sometimes quicker but it's very noticeable in mixes especially when synths are considered. The pitch slide allows for smooth transitions without that bend in sound. When executed properly and consistently, the discerning ear would find it harder to notice any pitch corrections.
ya but the bend in sound is caused by you quickly fixing the two beats drifting apart.... using the pitch slider is not as quick a fix as pitch bending and the beats will be apart for longer, which isnt very good either... i guess it rilly depends on the situation... if its a unsynthesized part of the track, with just beats, u can use pitch bending no problem, but if it is though some synthesized part then its more evident when pitch bending....
The tracks should never be that far apart in the first place
but it's an advice I always give because as DJs start using more and more of CDJs, the digital pitch makes track correction that much easier.Practicing on 1200s makes you a pro at pitchsliding on the CDJ.
It's a good habit to pick up in any case as the pitchslide correction is more accurate than any touches of the platter. Plus I also hate dealing with the platter when some records slip really easy or are a bit warped. It will help in the long run in dealing with adversity of different records and platter torque.
i have no idea what the hell you are guys talking about lol
julian, i can use my full name as my dj name, but no one would be able to pronounce it

Private lesson for Elena! Pitchsliding just means when your tracks are not perfectly matched, instead of correcting by pushing the platter or touching the record, you use the pitch slide to make your adjustments and bring the beats back to matching.
You can probs shorten your name to E-Dawg or Elena E. or A. whatever your last name may be.

Same way you get to Carnegie Hall.... practice!
A good tip is to start off with records from the same producer. 2 PVD tracks or 2 Timo Maas tracks usually go well together. This helps you with timing and listening to tracks come together.
ive noticed that tracks from same labels go well together too, so been mixing those a bit. im getting better, very slowly
