ok the popups SUCK

look, i understand the reality of the internet biz, and that ads pay money.

but, do the popups have to be the kind that spawn under your browser window, multiply, spread all over the place, take over my bloody computer, and make me lose all my work?

please, if ads must be used, that's fair. even if popups must be used, that's fair. but please, use some discretion and don't allow assinine tactics like that to assualt websurfers.

I don't have any problems with popups when using this site. Try installing a popup blocker, or a different browser, like Firefox?

Posted by Briden on Mar-22-2006 18:51:

i could yeah, and frequently do. at that time, i happened to have the popup blocker turned off. should software like that be neccesary on a site like this?

popup blockers are for surfing corporate whore sites, porn sites, crack sites, etc.

i consider tranceaddict a community of music lovers. should i have to hide behind a popup blocker here?

None of TA popup's perform the antics that they do on porn sites that u have suggested above..

sorry, i wish that were the case, but unfortunately, it isn't. i got one yesterday from something called traffic site? it filled my whole task bar with windows, and everytime i'd close one, 10 more popped up.

and NO it was not something else generating them, my system is clean.

without wanting to be rude or anything, I don't see many other people mentioning them, so I don't know what to say about it, I have firefox & have no problems at all with it.

Ditto, I use Firefox as well and haven't seen a single pop-up here...

great. i use firefox sometimes too. and popup blockers sometimes too.

that's irrelevant. the fact is, people who don't are being screwed over.

Posted by DarkFall01 on Mar-24-2006 19:09:

I just browsed the forums for a bit with IE and no pop up blocker. I did not get one single pop up. I only got one on the main site, that's it, I don't really see what the problem is...
If you're getting more popups, then you should consider rechecking your system for spyware, even though you said you already have.
I recommend Ad-aware and Spybot S&D.

Posted by Briden on Mar-24-2006 19:14:

trust me, my system is clean, i understand how to check it.

you only get one popup per session, if you aren't logged in.
if you clear your cookies, and refresh the main page, you'll get another. if you really want to see it, keep doing that, and eventually, you'll get hijacked like i did.

not all of them do it, but there is at LEAST one of the many that come up, that spawns multiple windows, trying exploits etc.

Posted by Coup on Mar-24-2006 19:33:

well you seem to be the only one with the problem?

Posted by idoru on Mar-24-2006 23:02:

As far as I know, the pop-ups only exist if you're not logged-in. I had a pop-under AD on my Powerbook the other day while looking at TA not logged-in. It's a good incentive for members.

Posted by jonze on Mar-26-2006 22:49:

ive had problems with the pop-ups a couple times while browsing at work and not being logged in. i can deal with a couple, but theres been occassions where 15 to 20 have come up when i click to read a thread.

Posted by Briden on Mar-28-2006 18:20:

yeah, that's exactly what i am talking about.

Posted by Fl1p on Apr-03-2006 05:26:

i dont think tranceaddict has any popup ads here in the forums only on the main/news page...

go to your local library or a friend's house and see if the problem is there. I doubt it.
