Question Name, alias, whatever ... quick question!

Ok well someone informed me that the name "Armas" is already being used (by a guy named "Franz Renger"). Ok well ... how was I suppose to know ... But anyways, does that have any implications for me using that name?

http://discogs.com
http://djlist.com

Your best bet would be to try those two.

Yea, I found just one site with Franz Renger on it, but it's not in English ... anyways, my concern is what could happen? I don't want any of my songs being mixed up with his (vice-versa). And since he's already on Discogs.com ... does that mean I have to get a new name??

Do the O.G. Armas and yourself share the same genre? If not, then it's okay. If so, you're only likely to get a letter in the mail from some copyright lawyer if you get really famous. Or if he's a real prick.

Who knows, he might not even have the name copyrighted and then you could sue him.

in an odd series of events, my hip-hop alter ego J-Kwest released a mixtape entitled "Angels & Demons."

What's weirder is, there is another J.Kwest out there (I had the name first, so fuck him), and one of his tracks is called...

"Armas"!!!!!

Posted by Aureus on Mar-23-2006 06:15:

anyways.... don't bother changing the name if you really like it. just accept the fact that on Discogs, if you ever professionally "release" anything, you may be refered to as "Armas (2)"

This is not uncommon on Discogs.

Hhmm, this might actually be a good thing ... it'll make me work harder and getting something released professionally and then blowup before he does ... ohhh I luv it ... plus I saw howmuch it costs to trademark

I know what you mean.

Granted DJ Freaq, isn't much of a stretch

Freak + Frequency -> Freaquency -> Freaq

But I created this name not knowing who "Freq" was at the time,(*sigh* or the many "Freq"s) . But honestly it's no big deal. I made the name up when I was 13-14 or so, it's kind of immature so I go by the alias Wrzonance in my recent productions as I get better at producing.

The name is created in a similar style. My last name is Wrzeski. With the "wrz" simply making the "res" sound. And "resonance" being similar. I just replaced the res with wrz.

It suits me better.

But yea. If he doesn't have the name copy-writed, you could be a prick and sue him.

Cool, I like the second one better "Wrzonance" ... but yea I hope he doesn't have it copyrighted ... haha yea I could sue him if I get it trademarked ... but it costs $ to sue ... and well I have no $ ... plus i'm too much of a nice guy haha ... but who knows, maybe that'll change if I get some $ ... then he's going down

You have no case, he had the name first.

Actually we don't know that.

Yes we do. Since he has a release out he can easily prove he had the name first. If this other guy has never put anything out or played a gig anywhere he can't really prove anything. Doesn't really matter if he actually used the name first...

I'm not sure how it is in other countries, but around here I don't even think you can trademark an artist name like that...
