Hey all! Coming from LA!! Where to go for a year...?
Hey fellow Aussies!!
Well,
I may be out in Australia for about a year, studying! Choices are between the following cities: Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, and Byron Bay. Of course, the lifestyles and trance/electronic music scene make a HUGE difference for me, because wherever I go, my records go! So, I'd love to start spinning out there as well... which of these cities has a great scene going? I'm going to be studying audio engineering, so I'd like to be able to find some work focused around electronic music in whatever city I settle in. Any recommendations? Which areas should I seek? avoid? I hear Byron Bay's extremely beautiful. I figured TA'ers in Australia would be the best resource for helping me decide where to make my (possibly) permanent home!
I appreciate allll your feedback and thoughtful insight. Yeeeahhh Aussieeelaaanddd!!!
dude Tasmania is where it's at. Sydney sucks and the only thing going for melbourne is souvlaki.
- Melbourne is a hole but has decent parties
- Sydney isn't a hole and has decent parties which aren't as good as Melbourne's
- Perth is a wasteland
- Byron Bay is amazing but is generally out of reach for anywhere else that matters
melbourne = worlds most livable city
nothing else to say
plus we do have good parties!

if you spin aussie rock then you win.
Seriously, if your coming to go to SAE, Byron has the best facility, but Sydney and Melbourne are good too, so Your choice would be out of those. Perth and Brisbane get the hand-me-down equpiment from Adelaide I heard
.
Why is it no-one ever thinks about Adelaide? And don't you Vics go knockin it. Adelaide is a great city, just small.
if I were you I'd choose Syndey for the weather, but Melbourne for the social aspect - depends what you want more considering you'll be hear to study. Don't expect much music 'life' in Byron, not enough people, but it would be wicked for relaxing.

Helsinki!!!
Your location says you are in the Netherlands but coming from LA? Please explain.
If you like big parties with good recoveries then come to Melbourne. If you prefer egg & bacon muffins, people putting make up on you and eating dry cereal in the morning then Sydney would be suitable for you

don't pay attention to the results though, there are more active melb.ta folk than syd.ta peepz on this forum these days.

I think I'm really liking Melbourne so far, over Sydney, based on all the info I've gathered thanks to you guys. So now... I suppose... SAE Melbourne vs Byron Bay?? |

nope, but we did have access to the Penthouse Sweet on the top floor of a skyscraper with a balcony looking over the entire city. The owners were conveniently in Byron Bay
and this is only a fraction of went on on the weekend
