Trip-hop is the most classiest EDM genre. A mixture of jazz + any edm.

I recommend
Portishead - Glory Box
Portishead - Sour Times
Spook - Running Away
Spook - Fall
and of course Massive Attack's Teardrop.

I recommend the album "The Dusk Sessions" by Spook and Portishead Live @ Roseland, NYC cd.

A Trip hop is pretty much like when you are walking right, and you like clip your foot on a rock or something which almost trips you, but then you do that sort of recover move where you just give a little hop and hope no one noticed.

That my friend is a trip hop.

Nightmares on Wax.

hes not pure trip hop though.

imagine like really slow instrumental hiphop with "trippier" beats. there you go, the really dubby kind rocks

If Massive Attack makes that kinda then I love it. It does sound nice! I'll dig deeper!

Trip hop is a cool genre. I've always liked the more pop side of it though, I could never get into Portishead. I have their CD "Dummy" but I could never get into it. I enjoy the duo Olive, and I also like Massive Attack's stuff, and Golfrapp seems quite nice. Mono is another duo with some nice stuff. I also like Faithless, they have some "trip hop" type stuff, and of course Dido, dunno if she would exactly be considered "trip hop" but her stuff is similar to Olive i'de say, but a little more acoustic.

Massive Attack - Rising Sun only trip hop you'll ever need

Thievery Corporation.

Isn't it slower, darker hip-hop, often with vocals and strings and suchlike?

Yeah but not as much rapping, Tricky raps but it's much different then in traditional hip hop. It's more or less downtempo music with hip hop influences but I wouldn't say it's "hip hop", a lot of it is like a mixture of blues and jazz, singer-songwriter music, hip hop and experimental and downtempo electronic music, and even some world and reggae too. Trip hop is just a bunch of styles combined into one, some dark, some light, but it's usually melancholy...it doesn't seem to all be brooding like Tricky though. I would almost consider him more underground and experimental hip hop, like Dr Octagon.

Dunno, I've never been too good with genre definitions, especially not concerning trip hop, nu jazz etc. but I always thought at least some of their albums were trip hop-ish.

Posted by montana on Mar-26-2006 19:58:

i reckon sounds from the thievery hi-fi was a bit like the triphop sound but with the mirror conspiracy was more into the nu jazz thing, then they turned really boring after that album

Posted by Spirit5 on Mar-26-2006 19:59:

I think Thievery Corporation are a mixture of downtempo styles, acid jazz, nu jazz, trip hop, dub and reggae and world music, with a little bit of hip hop here and there, like DJ Shadow's stuff.

Not all hip-hop has to have rapping.

"Hip hop music (also referred to as rap or rap music) is a style of popular music. It is made up of two main components: rapping (MCing) and DJing (audio mixing and scratching)"

Trip Hop is basically beats from rap with different types of vocals (non rap in most cases) and added instruments/sounds that seperate it from pure hip hop. its also downtempo in most cases.
