Promoters Mailing List (Poll)
How many of you like the fact promoters use a mailing list to promote?
I personaly dislike it, my inbox is full of junk and annoying spam from gino promoters and etc. That's why I don't use one, coming home on a hard days of work, you open up your e.mail and that's the last thing you wanna see in your inbox.
Throughout the yrs, my database have never been touch and it will be kept that way forever.
depends.
if its a club a regularly attend, and have requested to be put on the mailing list, then sure. its informative, and usually an easy way to be put on guestlist.
if its a club that somehow gets a hold of my email address and i have no intentions on going to the club EVER, then ya, its fuckin annoying.
I'm not crazy about getting emails from promotors, but an email once a week (or less) is informative enough, anything more than that is overkill.
i don't mind them at all, and in fact, sometimes they're the only way I get to stay informed as to what's going on in the city..
and in case they turn into daily spam i'd just block them, rarely though..
If you think it's annoying, don't sign up! pretty simple I thought

I'm on a few mailing lists that I like. The promoters arn't clubs so the mailing list keeps me up to date with events that I may not otherwise know about. If it's a club however, I would be less inclined to sign up. The mailing lists are best when the events arn't otherwise widely known about.

Originally posted by chinamon unfortunately that is not always the case. some promoters sell their email lists to others so you end up getting all kinds of shit in your inbox.

Originally posted by TranceGeek I could see that happening with marketing lists in general (e-mail, phone, regular mail, etc...), but I can't see it in the local club scene. I mean, if I were a promoter, I wouldn't sell/share my list with anyone, and I can't see another promoter willing to sell theirs.. *shrugs*
it's only an email...it takes two seconds to delete...
i send out thousands of emails a week and it's an extremely effective advertising tool.

Originally posted by TranceGeek well thats different... he was asking about email lists, you're talking about cell phone lists, which i'm sure everyone would find annoying...

i never signed up for any of them, maybe sent in guestlist and them bam. everyday im getting them, sometimes 3 emails from the same promoter about the same event! try and calm it down a little people.

I think a lot of the problem is some people are just weasels, plain and simple.
A lot of people in the club industry just aren't that bright, and have yet to be introduced to the bcc function, allowing the less morally inclined to poach those lovely forawrds with about 30+ recipients. (lots of TOTA summer events suffer from this
)
From my time with Boa, combined with having to signup with that crappy docks site to view event pics. I now get roughly 200 emails a week.
Not to mention that sjradio I used to bitch about somehow getting my cell # and spamming the shit out of me all summer last yr or the yr before.
I never had a list, but just went selectively through my address book and invited people who I wanted to come out or wanted to see, often dropping the occasional PM on here as much as I did email people... I was more concerned with getting my party family and favourite people out and in for free than I did my numbers :P
I don't like getting mass emails from people when I didn't sign up for them, nor have I ever asked for list from them for an event, especially when there's no option to click on a link to have them stop e-mailing.
I dont mind knowing. As long as they send pic via links not attachments, and the titles of the e-mails say what they are about.
