My Ultra 8 Review...

Im not the best at write-ups, but I'm gonna do my best at a review here. First of all, I've never been to any kind of event of this magnitude. We got to the park around 1pm or so, and started looking around, didnt really head to any particular tent, or stage as we wanted to see what was going on and where everything was since we had a long day ahead of us. One of the first places we actually stopped and checked out was the breakbeat arena 2 (*i think*), and unfortunatly I dont know who it was, but they kicked ass, it was one guy and a black chick in a body tight red outfit, they rocked the place! Im not usually a breaks fan, but they were playing a diffrent style that really sounded good, however at this point, i wasnt ready to dance.

We next headed to the main stage where they were playing a tranceport cd, or simply a cd with songs from tranceport, but it kept skippin. This was all while we waited for infected mushroom to get on stage. Man, let me tell you.. Ive never been a fan of them either, that is until now. I dont think i stopped dancing the entire set. They even had a guy with guitar on stage. It was so bad ass! I must have this set *hint* *hint*.

Im not sure where we went after that, I think we went to the carl cox tent, and im not sure once again (josh wink?) who was on stage, but there were two people we watched here and they pwned the place! () (pic2(cant find a pic of second guy yet)) to help identify artists.

We wandered a bit from there, and went to check out Baby Anne in the break beats arena, and part of DJ Craze as well, they were pretty good, although like mentioned previously, I'm not a huge break beats fan. They did draw a nice sized crowd though.

We also took a trip through the house tent, I have no idea who was playing, but they were droppin some serious shit! My lame ass friends didnt want to stay in there, I should have cause the tunes were definatly nice!

Another tent that didnt get much attention from me, that really should have was the Techno Tent. Everytime we went through here, the music was incredible. I dont hear much of that style anymore, but maybe thats because of my preferences. I will say however that ive been turned on to some new styles of music.

Back to the Carl Cox tent because after watching oakenfold at the main stage, I was freezing my ass off, only to start sweating my ass off! It was hot in that tent, and in more ways than one. Not only was Carl Cox my favorite set/dj for the entire day, I'm pretty sure that many others felt the same. The energy in that tent was just madness! I think maybe 50 people in there were not dancing and thats because they were in the back, way to messed up to dance, and of them part of my6 group was back there, lol! Its kinda funny seein so many people wearing sunglasses at night, and vicks in the noses and having no cares about it! The cops didnt bother anyone, infact the only time you saw law enforement, was to carry someone away on stretchers because some people either dont understand "moderation", or well...*shrug*..

We then went and caught the last part of the Killers which i did not care for in the slightest, forunatly it was over soon enough. Soon after however, Junkie XL came on and he tore shit up! His initial track selection owned the crowd, and then he started playing some slower, sorta lame stuff, after he realized the crowd wasnt into it, he shifte gears into high energy again. His entire set however was messed up by a blown speaker which I dont think he knew about. Ignoring the fact that the speaker was blown and making really low bass distorted and hissing, it was a great set.

After that we went and caught the end of prodigy, and stayed to watch Van Dyk, however he was getting owned by the techno and house tent, they were drowning him out, and we left around 11:30 to head to the Arena.

Once inside the Arena, which initially took forever and it was freezing, we found our ways to some seats, which we despratly needed. Orb was playing, and they were playing this wierd but good song with this guy going, "Oh My god... Its Techno Music". Ive always been a huge orb fan, with Orblivion being my favorite. They played little fluffy clouds and a bunch of other stuff I had'nt ever heard before. Overall Orb was nice!

Im not sure of the chick that came on after orb, but they rocked the house! To bad me and the group were to exhausted to wanna stay which is a shame, because i REALLY REALLY wanted to see Rabbit in the Moon.

Anyways, ill post some pictures later of the day.

Ultra 9 will definatly see me next year!

great review dude. Glad to hear you liked it and will be coming back next year too. So will I. I almost didn't go(yea that would've sucked bigtime ass!) but fortunately i did, and to my surprise it was well worth it. As far as best set for the night for me, it's between Carl Cox and maybe anyone from the Techno stage except Carola.

Im killing to get my hands on any of the sets from the carl cox tent

I didnt know he was playing progessive hard house, but i loved the crap out of it!

That looks like Danny Howells, less glammed up than most of his recent pics (think GU Miami, etc.) I didn't go, but I know he was playing in the Carl Cox tent (I think he was there last year, too.)

Also, the Infected Mushroom set is available. Go to the forum at this site - http://infected.co.il/ and there's a thread called Ultra Music Festival set (or something like that).

so true, my buddi and i kept walking around trying to get away from the sounds of the other tents behind us while PVd was on. i am not one to usually go up to front but we were up pretty close but i still felt that the sound was too low.

That wasn't the orb! That was James Zabelia! He fuckin' rocked it! The orb was supposed to do a live show, but something happened and they did a DJ set instead after Zabelia...and it was HORRIBLE. FUCKING HORRIBLE. They trainwrecked EVERY mix. It's a damn shame too.

Rabbit in the Moon was amazing. A few of the friends I was with took naps during the orb, and woke up for RITM. Good times. Glad you had fun!

Darren Emmerson's set at the Cox stage was fan fucking tastic. So was christian smith @ techno stage. I didn't get to check out half of the djs I wanted to since i spent half the time walking around and shoving through crowds and shit.
It was an experience I guess, but the jaded vets are right -- im not going back, it's just not worth it.

Carl Cox's set was amazing. I am normally a trance/house/whatever kind of person. But, rarely would I find myself listening to Carl Cox or Danny Tenaglia. I must say that this was the first time I have ever seen Cox live. Truly amazing what this man/god can do. I can't believe how awesome it was. Ask anyone who was in this tent about the energy. I only saw about 20 people in there not dancing, and they were taking care of 'business'. I am already looking into finding an event to go to check him out again. It was that great. My friends have been telling me that everyone should have to see him at least once and I never listened. Last year at Ultra i did not move fromthe main stage so i could see junkie xl, tiesto, oakie, and pvd, so i missed carl cox...big mistake. After jamming to carl cox for three hours nothing compared, musically. I went to the ultra stage to see pvd and it was more of the same stuff he always spins so we wandered over to the live stage and watched infusion close the night...very cool by the way.

Carl Cox...you are the man and we will meet again!!
