Nomen Nescio pres. Sandwalker - So Still (original mix)

Hey fellow trancelovers,

I am back with a new tune which I produced alone after having had much fun working on Stargliding with Rick (RickyM)

This track is under a new project name "Sandwalker" which represents my more relaxing warm trancers. Very curious what all you think of it. The track does not have a title yet so suggestions which fit this kind of track well are more than welcome

You can listen to the first 7 minutes again on my Soundclick page, it is the track called TBA :

Looking forward to your reactions guys.

Cheers,

Nomen Nescio

Hello Nomen!

I hear the tabla and directly I get attached to the tune.
And the progresive base that comes in a few secs after gives the tune the first touch of character. And im a dream melody addict so i cant complain about that and Im a complainer =) However The perc are very good blended in the background and the kick is punchy enough for this kind of dreamy tune. The break @ 2.40 is very nicely done and makes me think of the classic Ayla tunes wich is a compliment indeed. and the tb303 kinda melody after this is wonderful, Your mixing skills are very good , and theres no mastering flawes.

The only complain must be the snare roll that could be a litle better done, it isnt bad but it sounds very oldschool, But its a question of taste i guess.

This tune is very good indeed , Im impressed by this tho its the first tune i have heard from you it wont be the last. keep up the good work and Pm me when i can get this for my Ipod =)

I'd have to agree totally with mavve. I really love this production. The kick is punchy, yet still has power behind it. Such a dreamy tune and it definitely sounds like Ayla. Not enjoying all those snare rolls so much, but all the sounds are very creative.

hey nomen,

very good tune you made there,

i like the intro, right from the start, you came up with a nice pad which is a very good background filler imo.

good drumwork, i like the percussions and the bassdrum.
also the bassline sounds very good to me, in combination with the bassdrum you created a solid bottom.

i think the bassline is introduced a bit to quick, same applies for the lead sound that comes in at 1.00.

the lead sound is not realy my cup of tea but you came up with a lovely melody.

alltogether the effects do sounds very well produced.

i realy like the relaxed atmosphere your tune got.

good work.

cheers, nik.

ah a nice big kick accompanied by some minimal tribal pers. work nicely.

bass is nice. full and warm trance sound. reminds me of the good old days.

3 note melody is warning me a nice big melody is coming..

i think a bit of chopping out here and there of your percs could spice things up and add some variation in the break.

break- reminicent of 'this is my sound' by dj shog. i loved that tune back in the day

the emotion is nice in the break. very high melody could really work at an octave lower i think. would sound more emotional imo. or maybe it could drop an octave when the kick comes in? like on 'even angels cry.. that bit worked really well. then at 5.02 it could go up to the octave it is at the moment.. to add even more massiveness...

this is nice work as i expected. i would say it could do with a few meaner techy percs replacing the more classical trance sounds..

nice work nomen!

Hey guys thanks everyone for the comments so far, I am glad you all like the tune and I am happy I succeeded in my purpose of making a more laidback track

Richg101, thanks for always giving good detailed reviews. I understand what you say on the leadsound. I tried it an octave lower to start with but it clashed with the pluck which is an octave lower so this combination was the best. Also I knew you would like some more dirty percs haha. Maybe in the future that will be my next step, right now I am happy that my tracks are becoming better percussionwise

With regard to the snares used during the build up, I only did that to get some extra energy going. Without them the build up sounds less engaging but I do understand the concerns

Also I am glad people love the kick which I used, I am really loving this kick myself

Cheers everyone!

Hey menno

Nice intro, and as others have said (and myself before ) that the kick suits this track really well.
The change around 2 minutes works really well also.
Nice breakdown also, and very melancholy melody that you bring in here. As I mentioned before the plucks are excellent, and that wistful synth works well.
No real criticisms from me, the mastering is excellent and good mixdown.
Very nice work menno.

kick is good for this style of chill out your creating

percs ara nice

your bass is great

synths are also nice the melody has a nice feel to it although it doesnt really stand out like the chords in stargliding.

its a nice track to listen to although i think you could make it more catchy.

great flow and some awesome trance elements and instrumentation in this production. i agree about the snare rolls but that seems to be such a little detail in the overall production which sounds great. the hovering pad's 3rd note should be one semitone down until the break where it fits in very nicely, but thats just compositional preference. I would like to see some original sounding rythmic elements and drive to this tune, but maybe in a bit harder remix because right now it flows so well. great job

Posted by Nomen Nescio on Mar-28-2006 16:30:

Thanks Iloop for the positive comments Yeah percussionwise I am still growing and I thought the bongo's and a gentle percloop underneath the kick fitted the track the best. However I am aiming to make something banging soon

Hey there,

Great sounding track.
Can't fault the melodies and so. Truly sublime and lush.

One small thing does bug me a bit and that's the kick. If it's layered, it sounds like something is slightly out of time and gives that sound as if something is being mixed over the top to the kick. Perhaps I just like them cleaner and hell what do I know, I wish I could produce like this.

Edit
Hmm, might be a frequency from the bass

Good job

Cheers
Nem

Quite frankly I do remember me listening to the sample of your track with mouth wide open, on hearing that sample I'd say you own me producingwise. But thanks for the compliment

Thanks Nemesis! What I think you are hearing is either the subkick bouncing a bit or the subbass I already see that you edited, but when you listen to the kick clean in the beginning you should indeed be able to tell this kick is clean as a whistle Thanks for the kind words mate and don't talk yourself down , I really like your last track, it is a floorfiller.

Posted by Mr Rogers on Mar-30-2006 05:54:

cool chimes.....
like'n the tablas
oldschool kinda bassline....smooth i like it.
not crazy about the cymbals that kick in....doesn't sound like it fits.
maybe try breaking the 1/2 beat with the cymbals and get the beat rolling a bit more instead of chopping it up .
like'n the change in synth at 145ish....
lack'n a little bit of mid percs at this point i think.
maybe some bongo's or woodblock would sound cool.
nice break.
seems like there should be a lot more bass with this pad in the break though. sounds a little empty because the spectrum doesn't seem totally full.
smooth melody.
i like the way u kicked it in.

really nice track overall ....just some small issues i pointed out but lott of that stuff is taste.

good job!

Posted by Nomen Nescio on Mar-30-2006 19:38:

Thanks Mr Rogers for the valuable feedback. I can relate to some of the things you said. The basspad was a lot bigger at first in the breakdown but it did a bit of damage to the overall atmosphere which I wanted to be soothing. Subbass sawpads are bitches in general anyways, they hardly every do what u want LoL.

New percussion, with the signature Bassline is back, and i mean that as a good thing
Love the "dirty" strings during the break, expected a phatter lead though.
The lead reminds me of an old Trance track of which the name escapes me now.
Don't really like the snare rolls, melody wise it's all nice and smooth.
All in all, a good track - but you've made better ones in the past.

You're a very very talented guy, i actually had to look twice to make sure i was listening to the right thing!

Superb professional sounding tracks which non-professional producers can only dream of doing.

Excellent work, that goes for your other tracks too.

This is downright good! I would buy something of this quality.

Great stuff!!!!

I cannot believe you are not signed right now.

Haha Groundzero mate you definately are a terrific listener and you always have good reviews. Yes this is indeed my signature bassline from Even Angels Cry

I went for another sound with the Sandwalker project name, more soothing. So not the usual type of epic trancer

Lagrom : thanks mate I will keep this style up, but first on the list of projects is a name R.N.M. track with my partner in crime RickyM and then I will work on a more Nomen Nescio'ish track again before doing another Sandwalker haha.

Daw : Thanks for the compliments. A couple of tracks of mine are signed signed (to Total Digital Recordings. With a bit of luck this track will be signed too. I am very happy that you like it

Marcos Tate : I hope you were not refering to the tracks on my soundclick site previous to this track? I took off all the signed tracks and what is left is a bunch of older tracks. I am not that professional, there are many producers on here who producer the shit out of me haha. Thanks for the kind words though

Cheers people! Glad this track is getting mostly good reactions.

Posted by Takkra on Apr-02-2006 12:29:

the intro reminds a bit of 4 strings I think its because the bassline is so much the same god nice pad there.. (1:04 you hear it sound really nice ).. I always wondered how do you make those snare rolls .. mine sounds so hard and eww
beautiful lead !!! ohhh god... OH GOD I found my favourite track
man im so jealous of your skill..
