NHL Playoff predictions

I say Chicago and St. Louis will battle for the west and Ottawa and Boston in the East.

St. Louis will win the cup.

Posted by integrity1 on Jan-30-2002 01:24:

really you dont think detroit will make it?

Posted by Mark on Jan-30-2002 02:28:

isn't it a little too early to predict now? the canucks are on fire with 6 wins in a row. markus naslund leads the league in scoring with 57 points. we're going to steam roll and destroy every team in our path including detroit. just you watch....hahhahaa

ok here's my real prediction....i think the wings will be upset in the first round and then toronto will take the cup this year.

Posted by zarathustra on Jan-30-2002 06:00:

I'm very impressed by Vancouver and am relieved to see them play to their potential.

Detroit is very impressive but I don't want them to win because I hate Brett Hull.

Brent Johnson will distinguish himself as a money goaltender in this year's playoffs.

Posted by Slapskin on Jan-31-2002 07:38:

i dunno man. the play-off race is wide open in the west. so many teams piled up near the 8th spot. its gonna go down to the wire but i think detroit will take it all. too much experience

Ive been a Red Wing fan all my life, but also hate Brett Hull AND Dom Hasek. But they are good players and I hope they help Detroit win the cup. Although Detroit may not deserve it cause they got a really high payroll, I really want Steve Yzerman to win another Cup.

Posted by Joca on Feb-09-2002 09:06:

Well, their roster is just sick but I don't think Detriot will win. There good but there are way too many upsets in playoff hockey. I have no idea who's gonna win the west and I never follow the east so I have no predictions lol

asd

redwings > all

that's it

greetz!

I'll hope the Penguins will reach the playoffs but without Super Mario they won't get there.

hate to tell ya this... but boston bruins will spank detroit's ass in the finals

i dont know man, dafoes not a proven winner in the playoffs. i cant see him being able to stop shanny, yezerman, hull, robatille and the rest. i know thorntons a hell of a player and guriens having a great season but the wings defense is just too powerful

Rasta

well...i think it will be the Avs vs. Detroit in the west and new jersey vs. toronto in the conference finals...with the avs beating detroit because the wings are too old and will tire out. in the east i think it will be toronto over coming jersey in 7 games...actually, i think they both conferences will go 6 or 7 games. then, in the finals, peter forsberg makes his return to the avs and they beat the leafs in 6...but, i am a little biased here....hahaha....but seriously, i think there might be some upsets in the west with chicago possibly going to the finals

Posted by Kevin Rx on Mar-04-2002 19:26:

Maybe I'm biased, but you've all seem to have forgotten the Flyers. No team in the East can beat them in a seven game series, and the Wings are a very, very old. If Philly's power play picks up, they dominate the playoffs.

Posted by zoomp on Mar-05-2002 00:29:

Talking go leafs go !

what about Toronto Maple Leafs? They'll reach the play-offs? I hope so!

Posted by JHN416 on Mar-05-2002 17:40:

I hope the Leafs can pull it off without Cujo. They really need to pick up a decent goalie (maybe Trevor Kidd or Jeff Hackett??) but I'm going to say Detroit (even though I hate Brett Hull) will take the whole thing.

Posted by Thierry on Mar-08-2002 00:56:

Colorado/Detroit in the West, NJ/Philly for the East with the finals being Colorad/Philly and COLORADO WINNING IT ALL AGAIN, BABY!!! Roy is the greatest and he'll prove it again. I hope the Maple Leafs don't even make it into the playoffs

Posted by Mark on Mar-08-2002 05:25:

isn't milan hejduk going to miss the rest of the season?
if so, the avs are going to have a very very rough time in the playoffs

Posted by rollypoles on Mar-08-2002 18:05:

Rasta

the loss of hejduk might not be too bad...a lot of people have been saying he hasn't had that great of a year...but, i haven't looked at his stats or anything to compare them...still though, he's pretty fucking sweet....

also, the playoff picture keeps changing and there's about 1.5 months left to play so i think its kinda early to really get a good idea of who will even make it in to the playoffs

Posted by Thierry on Mar-12-2002 08:03:

Well Hejduk is hurt and most likely will miss the playoffs but Forsberg should be back for Round 3!

Posted by sebby on Apr-06-2002 21:48:

Sneaker Pimp

I like the way everyone thinks.

Here's my prediction...

For the east, the teams suffering with injuries won't make it past the second round. That's CUJO for the Leafs and Roenick for the Flyers. Look for the Bruins to go to the conference finals against the improved Devils. Because of playoff experience, the Devils will once again go to the finals.

Taking a look at the western conference the Red Wings look like a monopoly to me. However, if the Avs can get Hejduk and Forsberg back in time, we will witness a classic western conference showdown; Hasek vs. Roy. Boy, I can't wait to see that. Red Wings over Avs in 7.

Look for the Red Wings to win it all. Too many experienced players.

But don't count out one of the many cinderella teams out there. It could be the Canucks, Sharks, Coyotes, Oilers, Blues, Blackhawks, Senators, Canadiens, or Kings.

As a loyal Kings fan, I would like to see them win. They came close last year. I just don't want to see the Wings, Avs, Devils, or Stars win the cup. Enough is enough. Time for a new champion, I hope.

Posted by zarathustra on Apr-06-2002 22:27:

Damn, St. Louis sucks. Oh well.

If I were Detroit, I would for sure NOT want to play Vancouver in round 1.

Enough beating around the bush.

The Oilers will bring home the cup

Posted by integrity1 on Apr-07-2002 00:13:

you know its been so hard to say recently. phillys been playing like crap, bostons been hot, and what if forsberg can come back. that sure gives colorado some depth down the middle. not only that look at how well some of the lower seeds have been playing, like montreal

Posted by zarathustra on Apr-07-2002 02:19:

Wow,

5 pts seperating 2nd and 7th in the East and 4 pts seperating 4th and 8th in the West.

Dare I say that the NHL is the most competitive elite league in North America?

natch. hands down it's gotta be the NFL. And I'm a big time NHL fan.

but the eastern playoff race and 1st round series are going to be exciting ass hell. there's tremendous parity in the east this year. the west is going to be boring, u just know teams like LA and PHO and even San Jose aren't going to give the big two any kind of competition. Boston and Philly are not power houses, the east is wide open, can hardly wait.
