I had a visitor last night

It was cool, other than the fact that 24 was on and was nearing the end...and this week was a wild week for 24.

anyway, the dog sniffs something on the ground which I thought was food, but was not. it was this!!

thing was like a foot or 2 wide and a few feet long....feckin HUGE. and it ran like lightning, and bit like thunder.

^^well maybe not as big as I said, since you can see the lil groat line in the tile.

I smoked it with a shoe and all is good.

we dont have scorpions in ireland but i'd like to know:

1) would a human feel the sting?

2) is it dangerous?

ew.

That thing probably has a brother or sister...

who lives in your house...

and will sneak into your bed while you are sleeping...

and crawl on you.

Guess who isn't sleeping in your bed when she comes to Vegas!

it may piss rain 360 days / year in this country but you gotta love the fact that we have no poisonous spiders, insects or snakes.

no hurricanes or tornadoes either. shit we even have U2 and guiness

haha, I took that picture after screaming and crying like a girl for 5 minutes. scorpions still freak me out, but once I see a few it will be fine.

none the less, im sure it'll just be a little prick

Posted by L.E.N. on Mar-28-2006 17:18:

At least it didnt find its way into an empty shoe. That happend to my friend, he slid his shoe on when he was going to school. His foot got hammered by it a couple times. He was out for a week and his shoe didnt fit until the swelling went down....and it was a little one. Id hate to see what kind of damage a larger one would do.

Ba Dun Tse.

Posted by kadomony on Mar-28-2006 17:43:

larger ones are usually less poisonous.

one of the smallest scorpions, the yellow tail scorpion can kill people.

most though are relatively harmless and have weak poison

Posted by Jackson on Mar-28-2006 17:53:

You killed it? Aww thats abit harsh...i work with scorpions, all you gotta do is pick it up by the stinger using chopsticks or tweezers. Should have put it in a envelope and sent it to me

1 - Within the toxin that is injected there in an enzyme that causes extreme pain.

2 - Some scorpions will hit you with that enzyme as a warning sting, if youre persistant it will hit you with the real stuff and it can be lethal.

Yes, it opens up all the socalled sodium channels in all your nerve cells. they will depolarise 'cuz of that and will all send infernal pain to your brain

Posted by Psiweaver on Mar-28-2006 19:14:

scorpions are nasty little critters.

Posted by arcadia190 on Mar-28-2006 19:21:

u might say im a geek but

that scorpion its not a grown up yet

so the sting and the poison doesnt hurt as much as a grown up

the little scorpions poison its not as lethal

When I was 8 years old and in holiday in Portugal, me and my cousin of the same age caught a scorpion in a tupperware, I didn't know what it was, I just saw it moving and stuck it in there, it was a little one. I obviously had no idea that it could have stung and killed either of us. I would have been totally fucked if it did get me cos we were staying in a villa in the middle of nowhere, no hospitals for miles etc.

That's the only time i've ever seen one. My parents totally went mental when I brought the tupperware over to let them see it.
My dad took off his flip-flop and beat the shit out of the little thing.
