Annoying MC's!!! Why?!?

Hi!
Having listened to many a live set from Holland, I've noticed that there always seems to be some idiot on the microphone yelling at the crowd to "GIVE SOME RESPECT TO THE DJ!!!!" or something similar and they always do it right in the middle of the song!!!

I'm dying to know...doesn't this drive you guys crazy? It drives ME crazy and I'm just listening to it at home! Is it really necessary? Are the crowds over there so quiet and reserved that they need to be yelled at in order to get some kind of reaction?

I'm from Canada and I can tell you, if someone got on the mic here and started talking DURING a song, they'd be booed out of the club immediately!

Someone please explain.

Thank you!
obe

why don't you ask something easy, like the string theory or world peace or whatever. to me this is a big a mystery as it is to you. i can only think of dj's wanting ovations from the crowd.
1st: dutch crowd is a spoiled little brat
2nd: we have so many dj's here, that even I have no clou who got on or off.
3rd: sometimes it's a must to have an MC overshout a DJ. like when DJ Jean get's overenthousiastic

MC-ing is a typical dutch thing.

some can get the crowd wild like MC Marxman, MC Da Silva, MC Ruffian Paul T and others.

Other MC's can be very irritating indeed but you should remember that livesets are recordings from some party somewhere in the world and sometimes MC-ing and playing is necesarry to spice up the crowd and night.

'Common' is a better word in this case

I wish we had Mc's in belgium... maybe it's a "hole in the market"
MC kai

Is dat ene uitnodiging?

Posted by Kaidreas on Mar-30-2006 19:12:

uitnodiging? wil je market daten ofzow... ff rondtoeren met een winkelkarretje met een fles witte wijn in?

Posted by jp on Mar-30-2006 19:16:

Ik gebruik uit principe geen winkelwagentjes. Die dingen zijn irritant duur (1 euro) en sturen altijd de verkeerde kant op. Maar goed, volgend jaar op Qlimax Belgie is vast wel een plekje vrij voor ome jp

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I guess it's a cultural thing. Probably easier to understand string theory as ZZandirt suggested.

For those of you who've been to some clubs in North America to see a big dj, how would you compare the crowds to back home?

Every time I've seen Tiesto for example, the crowd is so loud and excited that you can barely hear what he's spinning. He could fart into the microphone and the crowd would go nuts! I'm not saying that's a good thing, but I'm sure the enthusiasm is appreciated by the dj.

I recall seeing a video from Sensation White and I remember thinking that the crowd didn't seem to be moving very much. Is that the norm? Maybe you guys are a bit more jaded about the whole thing since you've had such a great scene over there for so long.

dutch people are spoiled.
dutch people are more critical
Sensation white crowd-> lotsa what i call "trance-tourists". people that go for the hype, not the music.

hahahaha.. it is funny that you say that cuz it is totally true and I have noticed this on the 3 different occasions that I have been to the Netherlands

Since you get a lot of talent there first compared to many other places, you are definitely more critical when it comes to new DJ's and such. ie: Preach (who happends to be my favourite and I flew to Awakenings to see him last month, but Holland thinks he is too mellow for techno or just not good enough) That is a prime example. But as a DJ if you can win over a dutch crowd, you're in and good to go.. hahaha

Next year I will be one of these spoiled people though too.. needless to say.. I CAN'T WAIT

When I was roadtripping the USA i happened to be in Dalles when PVD came there. There was a really exiting atmosphere because it was one of the first big partys held in dallas. In holland it is been there done that for most party people.

In Holland as a dj to get the peole screaming and yelling you have to be at your best and play like you have never played before. yeah we are spoiled.

Also what also is the case that the dutch are packed these days and the big partys are having problems on their ticket sales. In the clubs the people tend to be more in the partymood and going crazy then on the big parties.

Of course, it probably doesn't help that the greatest dj's in the world are "just some local guy" when they're spinning in Holland.

You guys are the luckiest bastards on the planet!

Dj's are just people, not pop stars

Happens mostly on big commercial events or clubs if you ask me. It also depends on the genre.. trance, hardstyle..

Other 'underground' or non commercial events are free of this mc bs. So it depends where you go or what you download from NL.
