Twilo Miami

http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/intl/25598/
quote:
Americas best known superclub Twilo appears to be returning as a new Miami based venture called Phazon, according to rumours circulating in New York this week, lent validity by the launch of a new website TwiloMiami.com.

The creative team behind New York and Miamis most legendary clubs is doing it again in Miami Spring 2006, a message reads on the still as yet undeveloped site; Phazon; the worlds best DJs on the worlds best sound system.

Twilos unexpected return comes five years after it was shut down in a blaze of publicity by Rudolph Giulianis acolyte Rudy Washington, the then Deputy Mayor of New York described by Legalise Dancing NYC as one of the chief protagonists behind the Citys attack on nightlife.

In 1997 Rudy Guiliani created the multi-agency Nightclub Enforcement Task Force to crack down on clubs as part of his "Quality of Life" campaign, the civil liberties group recount on their site. Deputy Mayor Rudy Washington goes on the record stating, "We've been closing down these little buckets of blood (nightclubs) for about three years and paralyzing

them.

Speaking to the New York Daily News four years later as he set his sights on Twilo, the Deputy Mayor boasted to tabloids that hed close the club for good, claiming Every weekend people are in danger (at the club),If you look back over the last 12 to 14 months there are shootings, stabbings, overdoses.

Though his charges were vigorously dismissed by Twilos management, Washington soon after got his way though was unrepentant when the New York Times revealed soon after that hospital admissions for ecstasy exposure were unaffected by Twilos closure.

"These clubs, I hate to use this term, but their body counts keep rising," Washington said, "The clubs are just dumping people at the hospitals. I've succeeded in closing a number of these. And I'm going to continue to do it."

In more New York/ Miami club news, Sound Factory have also just launched a website/ email list at SoundFactoryMiam.com. The site urges visitors to sign up for Sound Factory resurrection.

what a horrible way to tarnish the twilo rep...

"the miami edition" this is too funny....

LET IT DIE ALREADY, DON'T TARNISH THE LEGACY!

Never went to the one in NYC but another club in Miami, who cares about the name... siiick!

There was a thread started on rhythmism at the beginning of the month. It's actually one of the "hot topics" on the main page if anyone's interested. Everyone has pretty much the same opinion as Brian. It'll just be another models and bottles club like most of the other miami venues.

So you mean like Space or Nocturnal? If so, that really sucks for Miami

Of the clubs i went to at WMC last year, space was the least "models & bottles" if that tells you anything

i'm just saying anything really related to a miami/south beach club is usually a "models and bottles" motto inspired club. it makes sense, sobe/miami is notorious for looking good and having money, it's the reason why we go down there and get wild =P but to have a name like twilo associated with that type of scene seriously tarnishes the truth behind the twilo legacy.

twilo was and always will be the club closest to my heart. it defined the true evolution of the edm culture. pretty much paved the way for artist like pvd and s&d, other headliners blessed this club as well carlcox, richie hawtin, seb fontaine, danny t, johnny vicious, and many more. I guess you can say NYC was literally spoiled when twilo was in it's prime. S&D Monthly followed by a PVD Bi-Monthly....that's like your dj mag top 3 for the past 5 years...

music was true then, bringing that legacy to miami's scene might put a damper on twilo's nyc legacy but will never erase the memorable nights/weekends i've spent there...i'm sure others sympathize with the way i feel.

i think pawn shop these days holds a place for very non-bottle, non-model crowd it reminded me very much of DC10 in ibiza.. eccentric people who weren't there to pose but to go nuts!

Posted by AY STAR on Mar-31-2006 22:34:

theres also a soundfactory miami comming soon
twilo and sound factory were the last of the true nyc clubs to go that dident cater to this bottle service bullshit
it was all about the music and sadly about the drugs also
but if these clubs open in miami and cater to the bottle service crowd rather then the music then its such a shame

Posted by arturob on Apr-01-2006 00:25:

twili is going to be located next to club space (right hand side if looking towards the entrance.)

:~

fun times ahead - miami ftw

Pawn Shop is my new favorite club. That back room was just perfect

well, my point was how are you going to assume something when you have no facts. downtown miami is a lot different than south beach. space, nocturnal and pawnshop are all right by each other. so if it is in fact located next to space then maybe it does have a chance of being a good "real" club.

and as far as tarnishing the reputaion of the old twilo. who cares? those who have been there know what it was and what it was about. isnt that what matters? or are you too concerned about living in the past to give something new a shot? the negative attitude on the board sometimes gets a bit old.
