seriously!!! - is universal nation THE only 98/99 track to not sound dated?????
i have had this in my mind for a good few years..
this track never gets dull and always works a dancefloor.
play it in a set from today and it doesnt sound old..
or not old like 'out of the blue' and 'gouryella'..
yet it was just as sucessful chart wise.
this has to be the most mould breaking track ever imo.
How about Carte Blanche? It was released around that time wasn't it?
i'm sorry rich, but it does sound rather dated now. it's too empty compared to recent tracks, it sounds out of place. even Gouryella and Out of the Blue provide a much fuller sound.
Generally, I prefer 1998-2001 trance over this new 2005-2006 trance... But I think that Push is/was seriously overrated and that Universal Nation is really nothing special at all.
I'd say a lot of BT's work still sounds 'fresh'. Mercury & Solace for example would blow almost everything out of the water if it was released today
i really can't see where you're coming from with that... i always had it down as one of THE most dated sounding tracks. sure its simplistic sound makes it work so well but always sounds dead out of place in newer sets for this reason
i agree with ariah that carte blanche has probably stood the test of time the most in terms of production quality... as far as uplifting trance goes anyway (which i'm presuming is what you were implying with the topic)
Quite funny thread, are you serious? Hell i even listen to trance from '91,'92 without thinking it sound any near dated with some exceptions of course. Universal Nation may not sound like the faky trance today you may like, but it's noway dated and sounds as good as ever.
I prefer the 2003 version he did...used the melody to better effect imo...just wished he did a similar job on Strange world 2006!

yeah i agree with all those that think it's dated. hell the original 1998 version sounded dated in 2000.
now you wanna talk timeless tracks that age gracefully...Underworld - Dark & Long
Stupid question. Very stupid question.
WestBam vs. Red Jerry - Wizards Of The Sonic

When I first heard Universal Nation it was on a mixed compilation CD surrounded by trance from the 1999 era and it clearly stood out as sounding old. Not bad, just old. (Having said that, I didn't like it at the time and I still don't like it now.)
that's crazy to say it's the only track to not sound dated and sure there are other tracks that have stood the test of time better... mercury and solace being a prime example!
